It's always better to Upgrade your speaker because upgrading the HU will still be using the Honda paper cone speakers.
The HU will sound much better. I've done it both ways before. But to each his own.

And you won't blow your speakers unless you push too much bass through them. That's what the high pass filter on the new HU is for. They certainly clip when turned up too far, but not if you're careful.

I'm running 400W RMS to a component set rated at 2x50W RMS; they sound great. Others have done the exact same thing for years and years on the same setup. It's more about what you choose to feed them than how many watts your equipment produces--just like a 600WHP Viper isn't impossible to tame on a track if you control it and have a little finesse.

Just like the 600WHP Viper, You can have the best motor in the world but if your tranny can't handle more the 500WHP then whats the point in those extra 100WHP. I could be wrong and I'm going off what i've learned, these are my .02

I already have an alpine hu as I said before. It's not a top end model and it's a couple years old probably (the previous owner changed it) but it's still better than nothing. I think the model number is like CDA9831... going off the top of my head. I plan to upgrade to speakers then in the future probably an amp and maybe a subfwoofer if I can find a good setup which doesn't take up all of my trunk space.

Juice_Steez, do those 3 options only have one speaker and the other is a ...midwoofer? Forgive me for being a noob, but what is a midwoofer?

No matter how BA you Head Unit is the OEM speaker have a low limit of RMS watts it can handle. Push them over that limit with a better HU and it will just distort, clip, and or blow the speaker with higher volume levels. If you're not a big audio file/ Tech geek then get some pioneers and call it a day, if you want more out of those pioneer (or what ever you like) put them on an AMP then get the most out of them
The number one EJ rule is to not post misinformation, which is what you're doing.

It's common sense that a good amp can compensate for bad speakers whereas good speakers won't help a bad amp. In this case, an aftermarket deck can feed a lot more clean power (even if it isn't much) than the OEM deck. The fact that you're talking about speakers clipping emphasizes the first sentence of my post. Amplifiers clip, speakers don't. Christ.

To the OP: Get the Infinity's that someone linked to. Those pair nicely with deck power and sound pretty mellow.

I see... how much easier is it to install coaxial speakers vs component speakers?

and does anyone have an answer to my question above?

so getting these infinity speaker should drop right into the car without any modification?

The recommended speakers from Juice Steez requires an amp as its component. No doubt the component are the best way to go however you need to install additional items.

I'm just trying to get a descent sound from the car. Anything is better than hearing cracking haha

Sorry for the late reply, All the sets I listed consist of Tweeter, Mid Bass, and Cross over. A tweeter is designed for high frequencies and the mid woofer is for the lower frequencies.

Potato Potato, like ace123 said to each his own.

To the OP: Good luck with the system

juice steez, ...i asked the "knowledgeable" best buy team and they told me that you dont "NEED" an amp with components.,....i know i wont get the most from them but will it "suck" if you run them without an amp???
also, those three you listed are not "shallow" speakers,....will we have issues trying to install them??

I think you meant will component speakers perform worse compared to coaxial speakers without an amp? I sorta wanna know this too.
