Default max speaker depth for mounting in rear panels

Polk MOMO MMC525

It says the Top-mount Depth (Inches) is 2 5/16... I know we have limited space back there... will this speaker fit back there? If not, is there some way I can make it fit?

Thanks for your help.
Mike

Not even close. Ask me how i know I couldn't come up w/ any reasonable way to make it fit. The supports that connect the speaker ring to the magnets are just too big.

I did get them to fin in a pair of s-pods but you have to back mount them 'cause the integrated tweeter sticks out so much.

They sound nice though, after all the hassle of getting 'em in there.

what if i cut out a wooden ring to the exact diameter of the speaker grill, and mounted it between the rear panel and the speakers... and if I covered the wooden ring with black/dark grey vinyl to match my interior... i think it wouldnt look too bad...

does this sound possible?

I thought about the same thing. The problem is that the rear of the speaker is so big in diameter that you really can't get any of it in the little area behind the rear panels. You'd basically have to have a ring as thick as the speaker is deep, which obviously wouldn't work no matter how much you put your seat forward. If you look at this pic you'll see what i mean about them being wide.

Trust me, i spend a lot of time trying to figure out alternatives 'til i finally forked out the cash for some s-pods. After all is said and done, i'm glad i did, but if i'd known that i was getting s-pods in the first place, i'd probably have gotten the MMC5250 components instead.

The depth of the rear speaker is not a problem when you install to the rear panel Lucid style. The diameter of the magnet is the problem, you need to choose speakers with the magnet diameter of 3" or less, then it can be flushed mount on the rear panel, if it is larger than 3", then you may need speaker spacers.
I had Infinity Kappa 5.25" coax mounted on the rear panels, since its magnet is more than 3", I had to use 1" spacers so that the panel can be re-installed.
You can check the mounting of the rear speakers very easy, removing the rear panel with a couple screws, then you will see the space for the rear speakers.

Personally I don't think anyone would be doing justice to a speaker by mounting it directly to the flimsy plastic behind the seats. I believe that if you cut a piece of 3/4 MDF in the same shape as the plastic that currently sits there and then use a wood ring you might end up with enough depth depending on the speaker being used. You may not even lose a notch of rearward seat adjustment because it appears that there is more room back there then the eye leads you to believe.

I have a fairly deep set of OZ 6.5" midbasses that I have full intentions on making fit in this location. It may take more then the wood mentioned above but I think it can be done

Dude i'm not trying to bust your chops, but there's no way that speaker is going behind the seat. None, nicht, nada. As TR-S2K said, it's not the depth, it's the diameter. You have a very small recess to fit the speaker in and no part of that speaker will fit in it. You'd basically be mounting the entire speaker on top of the panel.
