Default Megasquirt engine management

This is not directly S2000 related, but still worth discussing.

I have a friend with a 2001 Ford ZX2 that he has turbocharged (he built the entire kit himself while attending Wyotech). The system he built is working well mechanically, but his electronics are all fighting each other (evidently the Ford ECM on this car is notoriously difficult to work with). This will be made into a track-only car soon, so smog, OBD compliancy etc is no issue for him.

I read about the megasquirt a while back, and it came back to mind when we were talking about his problems. At about $100 in parts (plus some extra $$ depending on options) plus a few hours to build it, it's a pretty good deal. The flexibility and open-sourced nature of this product makes it seem like a great option... if it actually works well. I'm hoping some people on here have had some experience with it and can lend some advice.

EDIT: a link to the product would probably help... http://www.megasquirt.info

That system does work oddly enough. If you read about it and understand the theory behind it, it makes sense. But its will still need to be properly tuned.

We are working on changing over our twin turbo AC Cobra to FI with a megasquirt .

I haven't had a chance to use it yet but have a few people I know that have put it on turbo 240z's and track the cars with out issues .

Its the Linux of tuning world .It is standalone so he will need a crank trigger setup and some new sensors to make it work being that it is universal .

Go HERE into the forums and post a question on it . He should pop up to answer , if not PM me and I will get his # for you .

Thanks for the assist. Right now we're probably a few weeks/months away from actually implementing it. I'm just looking to get people's basic experiences and opinions on it, so that we can make an informed purchase when the time arrives.

I'm sure setting up the sensors and tuning are no problem for him. 2 years at Wyotech and now works for an air cooled Porsche racing shop. Living my dream the lucky bastard...

Miata folks are usually well-read (and more mature from my experience), so I take this as a good sign.

It's good to see that sometimes you don't have to empty your wallet to get something that actually works well.
