Mid-bass / Tweeters / Mid-Range Setup
I am thinking about doing a second upgrade to my audio system. Currently I have the Kenwood XR600 (2-way mid-range) drop-in in the kick panel and a Z919 headunit (22W RMS) w/ built in crossover. My plan is to improve the soundstage and bass by either :
1) Putting in a pair of tweeters on dash or door (mine is yr2000), and filling the rear with a pair mid-bass in the rear panel. Reason for the rear mid-bass, as oppose to mid-range, is because the seats will undermine any highs produced.
2) Move the XR600 to the rear and get a new set of components for the front.
For cost reasons, I do not want to put in an amp at this point, although it would be appropriate, esp if I go with option 1. My next upgrade would likely be amp + subwoofer. That said, my HU will be driving all 6 speakers after this upgrade.
I am not sure if all these make sense. I would welcome your experience & feedback about acoustics, fitment, alternatives, etc. in this car.
Also, is there anything I need to keep in mind when I select tweeters/mid-bass or components given these setup?

i would try to get a listen to a car with an amp in it. you might be surprised at how good just 2 speakers (+2 tweeters) can sound with a proper amp driving it.
even without a sub, properly driven speakers will still put out a lot of midbass into the car. the stock head puts out about 10-15 watts RMS, most aftermarket components are rated for 50-100RMS--so the stock head will have a hard time driving them properly.
i tried staying with the stock head for awhile and i was amazed at the difference an amp gives, yes it is louder--but it's much clearer at lower volumes and the mid-bass & bass are much more pronoucned now.
like i said, see if you can find an owner to listen, i think it might change your plans.

The XR600s are recommended to be played at 2-45 WRMS/180 Max. My Kenwood HU are rated at 22RMS/60 Max, and currently, with the top down, I can hear the the speakers clearly at a bit over half volume.
Would adding an amp in this case increase the clarity of music at the same volume level or raise the limit of the upper volume level w/ less distortion, or both?
