Default minor sound enhancement (+ipod)

I would like to improve the sound in my S2000 ever so slightly, nothing like the thousands of dollars and dozens of pounds I have added to my past cars, but something to spice it up a little. One key addition will be ipod or at least aux input.

Ideally I could keep the stock head unit. I think I have seen devices that let me connect ipod or aux via the CD changer channel? Do those work well or should I simply get a replacement head unit? I LOVE the steering-side audio control and would hate to lose that.

Next up I suppose I could use a small amp that takes high level input, and a new set of inexpensive but decent sounding speakers. Any recs?

Thanks!

Aftermarket HU will improve the sound noticeably over the stock HU and give you USB and iPhone/iPod connectivity with the right one. Getting a Modifry DCI will enable you to keep the stock radio controls. I just installed Polk DB6501s for a cheap upgrade and the sound is much improved on top of what my Kenwood HU brought to the table. My sound is rounded out with a Sound Ordnance B-8PT for the low bass.

I'm not sure what the pricing is on your side of the pond, but everything I have cost me a little over $500 USD. I still need to add a small amp to the door speakers, but that will still stay below $700 total after all is said and done.

No need to spend for the Modifry DCI, you can get the Autoleads for a lot less. You may find this thread useful in that regard: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/106...g-dash-control

A new head unit is a much better idea than adding an amp to the terrible OEM unit. The units rom the major manufacturers (Alpine, JVC, Pioneer, Kenwood etc) are all much of a muchness within their various price brackets, so pick one with the price and features you require and off you go.

Given that you want those two things, replace the head unit.

That's what a DCI/SWI is for.

Define "well". It's a solution that relies on compromise. I personally prefer the iPod/iPhone interface on my aftermarket head unit versus CD changer emulation that interfaces for the stock head unit rely on but YMMV. You might find it acceptable. Take a look and see if the interface manufacturer you're considering offers has a manual on their web site. Read and see if the functionality meets your needs.
