Mp3 cd in factory stereo unit?
HI All,
Search seems to be broken, sorry I'm sure this has been covered before. I looked on the Honda site and it doesn't say.
I see the standard unit is XM compatible .
Three questions:
Does Honda offer the xm antenna install at time of purchas and where does it mount?
Does the standard Honda stereo play MP3 cds in addition to standard cds?
Thanks
Chris

The XM antenna and tuner are accessories and can be purchased and installed by the dealer. A picture of it is here (and they stuck it right in the middle of the trunk lid!):

The same picture is here, along with a discount price:

Keep in mind the stereo is "XM Ready" so you still have to buy the tuner and the antenna, and that is $429 at a discount.
I would get something like the SkyFi2 (what I have) or may be one of the XM2Go units instead. A lot cheaper and you can move it from car to car to house to work all on one subscription. A lot more features and a lot easier to read display on these as well. I would also NOT put the antenna on the outside of the car at all. It works perfect stuck on the lid of the "secret compartment" - stuck behind the flip down windscreen between the seats.
And finally more bad news, the OEM stereo will not play MP3s. Some of the other Hondas do have MP3 stereos in them now (Ridgeline, some Civics, etc).

Thanks Dennis, for telling me what I didn't want to hear about the MP3s. I've got the factory installed xm on my scion, can't live without it, but sounds like I'll have to upgrade the stereo in any event.

You can get a SkyFi2 and car kit for $69 plus shipping (through a special deal), then get an Arkon gooseneck mount ($20-25) and you are all set - for now. The SkyFi2 has an FM modulator so you can keep the OEM deck. When you are ready for more tunes then you can get an aftermarket deck with aux in. Heck, you can even get an aux in adapter for the OEM stereo.
Get a boom box and/or more car and home kits and take the SkyFi2 anywhere.

Pretty much works the same way
They make a plug that connects to the CD changer port on the back of the OEM stereo. They normally have RCA inputs for a line level source, then you just need a 1/8" mini stereo plug to male RCA adapter and you are good to go. Most preclude you from using the OEM changer.
Here is one of them that Crutchfield carries (good place, but you may find it cheaper elsewhere)

I am a cheap-skate, so I like having to only pay a single monthly fee and use a lone XM tuner on the bikes and in the cars
