I'm waiting for them release a Sony version in October, but the Kenwood version is already out. IMO an mp3 deck is much better than an mp3 headunit. Loads are much quicker. Supports playlists and everything. I saw a product demo a couple years back. This thing is really cool. Now all they need is a home stereo dock w/ controls.

also...

http://ssiamerica.com/products/neo35/, but I like the headunit integrated controls of phatnoise.

I was helping out a college senior design team that had a promising mp3 player for a car and home stereo (dad-io). The business guys got too greedy and the elens got lazy. The project fell through. Well enough I guess. The funding would have dried up before a finished product could be delivered.

The Alpine CDA-7878 head unit plays MP3 files from CD, this can be hooked up to the dash mounted controls using Alpine's harness adaptor (KCE-865B).

There have been a few posts about getting this adaptor shipped to the US from Europe (I'm not sure US dealers stock it) but I can't remember any of the other threads off the top of my head.

Does the Alpine CDA-7878 support the KCE-865B? I seem to recall that it does not have the proper connector.

Maybe when someone finally gets a CDA-7878, they can report back wether the rear has the remote-jack or not...

That's the only we're going to find out!

Just got a 7878 deck (USA) and it does not have the interface jack for the KCE-865B interface. The 7878 was instock at the local Ultimate Electronics for $799.
