OH, ipod to amp, this wasn't clear. We thought (well i did anyway) that the ipod was plugged into an RCA out from the HU, which makes no sense whatsover.

Dude....what alpine do you have??? Regular alpine headunits.....

(not the screens, and not the DVDs) have NO INPUTS. THere is NO WAY to attach anything directly. All the RCAs are OUTS

Front out
Rear Out
Sub out.

You need to buy this for it to work.

Ok i stopped by my local audio shop and picked up AUX alpine adapter and hooked it up. Felt kinda stupid now that i see what i was doin worng

Not strictly true. Most head units have a bus system that lets them recognised and select items on the bus as the input. If you were to plug a source into the RCAs of this type of head unit it wouldn't see it as a source and you wouldn't be able to select it. That goes for Sony, Alpine, and the Honda head unit I believe.

To attach an RCA source to the Sony bus you need an XA-107.



Once you plug this device in the Sony head unit recognises it as a source and you can select it.



For the OEM head unit you need this:
