any recs on a 4 or 5 channel amp with audiophile quality but at a reasonable price?

must be at least 4 x 100 rms.

i was looking at the blaupunkt pa4100 but heard that the reliability was questionable.
the jl 500/5 is nice but only supplies 25W/channel to the rears.

is avionixx any good?

25 is a lot for rears. Especially clean JL power.

If you want a great 5-ch amp and don't mind losing the front-facing wall of your trunk, look into the Memphis Belle

There are also these 5 channel amps:

1. Hifonics: Zues Z8000 ($279)
(50x4/200x1 or 100x4/300x1)

3. Kicker KX700.5: ($304)

I use the Phoenix Gold Tantrum 600.4 amp, although, I must admit, it probably is NOT "audiophile" grade. But then again, for this car with all the added noise, is that a major deal breaker? It is 75W/channel (x4) into 4ohms, and 300W/channel bridged (x2) into 4ohms (but stable down to 2ohms bridged).

audiophile quality is a pretty hefty requirement and the blaupunkt pa4100 is about as far as you can get from it...

i would only feel comfortable recommending amps that i've got at least some experience with, but in the audiophile grade - my recommendations would be to look into Audioson or McIntosh amps. but expect to spend close to $1k or better for a 4 channel by 100 Wrms amp.

now, since i doubt you're really wanting audiophile grade gear, but are thinking more in terms of good quality amps - i would still say keep away from the blaupunkt. b0mbrman's suggestions are good, and provide a nice assemblage.

the avionixx amps are supposed to be quite good (haven't sampled one personally), but if you're looking for good sound quality, i'd stay away from their digital line (AXT series) and stick w/ their analog (AXA) line. i've never felt that T-class amplifiers provide good sound quality for anything other than subwoofer duty. the AXA 600.4 is supposed to be an excellent amp. 110Wrms x 4 @ 4ohms.

AXA 440.4 4x85@4ohm, 2x220@4ohm - $205.00
AXA 600.4 4x110@4ohm, 2x300@4ohm - $280.00
