Just installed a pioneer p690ub and I connected the mute wire to the car and now sometimes the deck will switch to mute by itself and I have to turn the mute button on on the dash controls. I'm not using a DCI or anything else. Do I have to just disconnect that wire? Thanks

What wire in the harness did you connect the mute wire from the HU to?

The two mute systems (dash mute switch and the HU mute input) are EXACT opposites. The dash switch puts out +12v when muted and the head unit expects a ground when muted.

This does not mean the HU will work the opposite of what the switch says, because the dash switch never puts out a ground - it's either +12v or nothing. When it's "nothing" the HU doesn't know what to do so it randomly goes into mute. Turning mute ON at the dash provides +12v which the HU sees as "not muted". But, it could just as easily fry if it's a typical HU and has a pullup to +5v, or the dash switch circuit could fry too. You're never supposed to connect these circuits together. Disconnect it!

You need to install a relay to convert the +12v from the dash switch to a ground that the HU can use. Make sure it's a low current relay, not a typical "ice cube" automotive relay. If you don't know what I'm talking about get some help before you fry something.
