Default MY06 Dash Panel Removal

I am trying to tap into the VSS but I can't remove the panel. Helms says take the screw out then the little pop in, then pull out pins from each side. The problem is once you pop them in, there is no room to pull them out. How do you do this? I can't think of any tool that can get in there to pull them out.

Wish it was as easy as just pulling like in the earlier models.

HELP!

HA ok got some thin flat head tweezers and VERY gently pried them out. Came off easy with no scratches.

Ok back to the garage....

My 06 had the screw, but the lockpins were missing.

I figured it was an error in the helms, now I wonder if it was removed before I got the car (shipping damage to the panel somehow?) or they were never installed at the factory.
