Need Audio and Security System Recommendation
Hi all,
just got my 06 s2k in last weekend. Excited yet worried because I don't have a stock nor any alarm on it so i am thinking about purchasing one. Also I want to hook up an ipod to my S with good quality. I have a Alpine 9852 deck in my old car right now which i think it's 06 model. It is ipod ready and I have been using it and loved it. It also supports wireless remote control. Anyhow I am going to put the Alpine HU into my S along with the ipod adaptor. However I don't want to lose the dash control function so I did some research on how I could keep the function with the Alpine HU. After going through some threads on this forum I came up with 2 product, the modifry DCI and the PAC SWI-ALP. ( I don't think a Alpine Wired DCI would work on 9852 btw) However I got questions for both products which will determine the winner.
The modifry uses the wireless function of the HU and retain the controls with out delay which is good and what I want. However I talked to an audio shop and the guy there said a wireless control with infrared transmitter would malfunction or harmed by excess sunlight when the top is down. Sounds like a con to me but is it really true? He also recommended going for the PAC SWI-ALP which controls the Alpine HU with hardwire input. Sounds good, the only problem is what the S2000-specific Audio/Electronics FAQ mentions that the PAC's programming makes slight but noticeable delay when using the dash controls. I am not sure if that only happens with the old PAC SWI-X or also to the SWI-ALP because to my understanding the SWI-ALP is a newer model so I think it might not have that problem. But it's just my guess, any SWI-ALP user can confirm that for me? Anyways, given two choices here, which dash control interface should i pick?
Going onto alarm, the store recommend a Marksman security system M11A which comes with 2 ways communicating transmitter along with other functions and an extra optional motion sensor which is for convertible. Sounds pretty good to me but I want to hear comment first. Is there any Marksman user here? how does the system work? I like the communicating function it has so I can know the status of the car even it's out of sight. I am also willing to consider any other similar and good security systems out there as well if you guy could name some and its functions.
Any suggestion or comment are greatly appreciated.

the SWI-ALP needs the wired remote jack, just like the wired Modifry DCI.
the SWI-X is IR, like the non-wired DCI, so both companies make products
compatible with either a wired or IR remote, whichever your headunit
supports. the general consensus seems to be that the SWI-X is awful,
the SWI-ALP acceptable, but either Modifry DCI is far better than the
PAC equivalent due to both the lack of delay compared to the SWI-X,
as well as the additional features programmed in.
There are many happy owners of the Modifry DCI here (including me, IR
version).
