Need help with MY2002 audio upgrade ...
i am thinking of doing a little audio upgrade on my MY2002 ...
i read and i searched, but i still have some questions:
1) what do i need to do that to make the dash audio control to work with aftermarket? they have 2 different SWI? how's that work? are they plug and play or they need more work to make them functional?
2) can someone explain how the front speakers and the tweeters on MY2002 are wired? can i just replace the speakers and leave the tweeters there? or do i need to replace both of them at the same time?
3) i am thinking of putting a set of component rear speakers. can i make them work without putting in an amp? (with the stock HU or aftermarket ones)
is there any web site that i can read up on how to wire them up? what kind of plugs and wire to use?
i want better sound and rear speakers, and i am trying to avoid putting in an amp (too lazy to wire them up and i don't want to take up the trunk space)
suggestion?
thanks

Pac now only make one, SWI-X, it is universal and will function with our cars. I have this installed in my car, and I did it my self (with a little help from Lucid's site). Think of this as a learning remote. You wire it into the car, and then "Teach" it what button does what remote button. Pretty much plug and play.
2) can someone explain how the front speakers and the tweeters on MY2002 are wired? can I just replace the speakers and leave the tweeters there? or do I need to replace both of them at the same time?
They are wired is parallel.
You can just change the woofers and leave the tweeters, but both of these are of fairly poor design. You would be better served if you where going to replace the woofer, and replace them both.
I replaced them both with a set of components and I did not install an amp to drive them. I don't wake the neighbors when I drive top down late at night, but I can hear it fine @ 90+

I would put something smaller in the rear (less cost) since they serve as fill. And then drop this cash on the fronts. I also think that adding a high powered Headunit (Alpine, Kenwood) will add just enough power to drive them for top down driving. Now having said that, I did install comps in the rear. It was a tight squeeze and I would not do it again. (I have driving it is a High powered headunit)

Lucid has every thing you need, and a cost that is better that a local installation shop, and he knows our cars well. His site (http://www.lucidautomotive.com/) has a number of installation guides with will show you what you are looking for. Also MacGyvers site is great too (http://home.attbi.com/~danhintz/ ).

This is exactly what I wanted, and MP3 too. I even had an amp ready to install just incase I wanted more then my install delivered. The amp is still in the box, so I guess I got it.
I hope this helps
thanks a lot stratocaster, that's great help
i am wondering what component speakers are you using? you can use the new tweeter at the factory location?
do you have rear speakers then?
can you give me some more info on the system that you are running?
ballpark figure of what you spent on your system?
thanks!
i want to keep it simple and keep the weight down ...

Yes I would recommend Lucid on this matter
You can add CERTAIN component sets to the 02 deck but very few. Most have a lower sensitivity, provided with amp power you get a more accurate sound.
2-way/3-way are fine for the rear. Any set you use with the OEM deck you can always use with an aftermarket. If you should amp these add a simple bass blocker.
In your situation, just add rear speakers, maybe that will be enough for your tastes. Then consider the deck & doors. Adding an amp will take space, a lot more labor and tuning.
