Default need help-- power a HU when not hooked up to car

ok,
So i have a quick question. i bought all the supplies for a speaker cooler--
cooler, speakers, HU.

I'm trying to get the HU to power on and from what i know, all you need to do is connect yellow and black(remote and ground) to the negative side of hte batter andRed(power) to the positive side of the battery.

Forget about the speakers-- im just trying to get the HU to power on. Is there something I am not doing? Something i'm doing wrong?

I figure i'm doing it right, but then i think about how you can't turn a HU on without the car ignition on.... a little confused

Please help

Thanks
Drew

Usually you dont hook a head unit up directly to the battery.

All I can say its ouch you shouldn't be doing it if you think red is constant 12v and yellow is switched!!
Thats totally backwards..\

And I hope u didn't cut the factory harness it would of been easier to spend the extra bucks and just buy a connector so you just plug it in..

no, i bought clamps. i went directly from the HU, and soldered the red/yellow together and then connected those to extension wires that are soldered to a small clamp. the ground wire is soldered to an extension wire and then to a clamp... just like hooking up mini jumper cables now.

why ... the plug that plugs into the factory head unit has everything u need. Plus why would hook the red and yellow up to constant power, that means ur deck never turns off and you have to do it manually..

^Duh. It's connected to a battery so no matter how it's wired he has to turn it off "manually".

Thats your problem right there. You connected the YELLOW (+) to the Negative terminial of the Battery, while trying to power up the radio. Bad bad bad.

You probably just fried your headunit.

Check the fuse under the radio harness, its probably blown. Or you headunit might smell like fried electronics.

If your somehow lucky and didnt fry it then try this....

Yellow & Red must be connected to the (+) terminal of the battery
Black (-) must be connected to the negative terminal of the battery

Ensure ALL of your other wires are not exposed so they dont short out. Your radio should power on when you hit the on button.

Stealth-- its for a cooler radio. there's no reason for a harness.
