Alpine Head unit n speaker Install advice
hey guys, the alpine cd player manual says that there should be a cable going from the headunit to the battery, and a cable going from the headunit to the ignition/power source... i assume the hearunit requires a power cable to the battery so it can retain its memory, and one cable to the ignition so it turns on when the key is turned...
what sort of power cable would be required to go to the battery? or would the s2000 harness have it already?
also, for those with the type r 6.5 speakers, did you guys use the spacer thing that came with it? i noticed that it had holes for smaller and larger door holes...

I can't help you with the speakers.
As for the HU, there are wires for "on with ignition" and "on all the time" included in the factory harness.
However, some of the newer Alpine HUs produce a fair ammount of power, and can draw far more power than the OEM wires are designed to handle. So the reccomendation is to run a dedicated wire all the way to the battery for the "power on all the time" wire.
If this is the case, remove the battery from the car and there is a grommet behind the battery that goes through the firewall. Carefully cut off the tape on the grommet, and find the other side inside the passenger footwell. Remove the tape from that side and a 6-8Ga wire will fit VERY easily (4ga fits with some effort, and I have heard of some maniacs getting 0ga through there
)
That is a convient way to reach the back of the HU. Be sure to install a fuse between that wire and the battery. The closer to the battery the better.

I used the spacers that came with the speakers along with a .5" spacer. This was because the previous owner had gotten rid of the stock speaker brackets, so I attached the .5" speaker spacers directly to the metal of the door panel. I don't know if you need to use them if you have the stock brackets though.
