Default Need new Tweeters, sub, amp. recommendations???

I'm halfway through my stereo upgrade, it's taking a while due to underfunding. Anyway, I bought the car used, and the previous owner threw some Fosgate Components in the doors. The tweeters were blown when I got the car, and I'm waiting to get them replaced until I put in a Sub so I won't blow out a new set.

I've put in an Alpine 7892, which is 60x4. I also put in a pair of Lucid's rear panels with Kenwood Excelon's.

I'm looking for suggestions for a Sub, amp, and tweeters.

I plan on WLaurents 8 in box, so driver/amp suggestions are what i'm looking for, and tweeter suggestions as well. Thanks

Sorry, that should've been 50 x4, i just double checked the specs.

the sub will keep me from blowing the tweeters because I can route the bass into the sub and set the HPF on the speakers.

I like to listen to all kinds of music but country. I prefer quality to volume, but do like volume.

Budget, here's what I'd like to spend.
Tweeters, No more than $150
Sub (driver)- No more than $150
Amp - Around $300.

Thanks

That's its max, not its RMS. It doesn't matter though as you won't be using the internal amp of the deck

You highpass tweeters at 2500 Hz or higher...that's nowhere near what a sub does (I LP mine around 80...)

Even without a sub, you couldn't get a tweeter to play bass notes. Play a tweeter full range with pink noise (or white if you want) and you'll get a big ugly blip around its Fs (usually 1800 or so) and nothing below that. But yes, this will blow your tweeter.

Not blowing your tweeters has everything to do with using a proper series notch filter (part of the crossover your RF comps came with) and nothing to do with subwoofers[quote]Budget, here's what I'd like to spend.
Tweeters, No more than $150[QUOTE]LPG 26NA ...$70 a pair. My favorites. It's the perfect blend of detail and warmth though any number of metal tweeters (i.e. the Focal stuff) should serve you well in the stock locations
Sub (driver)- No more than $150
I can't say enough good things about the Tangband W8-704C. At just $33, you really can't find anything reasonably close in terms of price (and size) that can touch it in terms of SQ. If you want to spend more, the other guys here have had good experiences with the ED8a.

Other subs that might be worth looking around the $33 range are the Resonant Engineering RE8 (First budget offering from a company that makes killer SPL subs) and the Lanzar Neo 8(Yeah I said Lanzar...)
Amp - Around $300.
Uh...the Autotek SX-4160 is a workhorse for just about that much--underrated and built like a brick. Soundstream's Rubicon line should have an amp that will also fit into your budget.

A couple good amps under $200 are the US Acoustics USX4085 and the JBL 80.4.

And at $68 is the Planet Audio P450. If you have an 8, you'd be more than happy with this amp.

An 8 in the side of the trunk. Thanks for all the advice, and clearing up a few misconceptions I held. I'm no audio guru.

the ED e8a is probably out of the budget.... the driver alone runs about $185 pre shipping. if you can stretch to get it though, it is quite a monster, but you should be prepared to feed it at least 300Wrms x 1 @ 2ohms. (Max wattage rms is in the 500Wrms range)
another sub that isn't too pricey is the Rockford Fosgate HX2 (i think that's the model) and William (WLaurent) sells these preinstalled in the enclosure for a very reasonable price. a number of folks here have spoken highly of them.
if you're looking for a bit more boom, the Kicker L5 and L7 solobarics are also generally well praised, but aren't considered as musical.
others like the JL 8w3, but i find it a bit pricey for what you get. if you can find it affordibly, i would recommend it, as it is a nicely musical sub.

if you have tweeters, they should be protected by the crossover that comes w/ your components or will need to be protected by use of an active crossover. as stated above, a sub really has nothing to do with it...

regarding amps, there's another good thread going right now about choosing a decently priced 4 channel amp. https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...threadid=148313

I'd prefer a clean, sharp bass to a really loud one that doesn't sound as crisp. Is the HX2 pretty crisp?

i can't vouch for certain, but others who have had the HX2 vouch for it being fairly crisp. the e8a is very crisp and accurate. and the JL is also supposed to be a crisp and accurate sub. in some ways, the term 'musical' defines accuracy, a component of which is crispness.
