need some help, noob question
I tried hooking up and amp today and ran into some problems. I am using one of the those converters that allows you to hook up an amp with the factory head unit. I could not find the wire pinouts for the 2008 model so I spliced into the colors I found listed on here for a 03-04, cant remember which year. the wires were
Drivers side
+ GRN/Yellow
- Gry/Red
Passenger side
+ GRN/Blk
- Light green
so I hooked the converter to these wires. I also did not run speaker wire from the amp to the speakers; I simply ran the speaker wire from the amp to the harness wires listed above.
so my problem is that once everything is hooked up and I turn on the car I get no music through the speakers, only an anoying buzz/hum/screeching... kinda like when you hook the RCA's up the wrong way.
Im thinking either the converter is bad (it is a couple years old, but was working in my previous car), or I have spliced the wrong harness wires...
I put in some Alpine Type R separates a couple of days ago (doors and tweeters with crossover). those have been working fine, until now.
does anyone have the speaker wire pinouts for the 08?
This is the amp im using (the top one). Can somone help me and tell my how to set it up? its an Eclipse 3640 4 channel

sorry for the long rambling but I have never had this problem before.

Hmm, it could be a number of different things. Do you have the user manual for the amp? I recently hooked up an amp to my alpine type r speakers and found the manual to be quite helpful.
Are these the high to low converters you're using (or something similar)? http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=265-026 . Its possible you have the wires crossed somewhere. Try to re-trace your steps and make sure you kept the polarity correct. Also, are you bridging the amp? If so you will need to have a "y" adaptor from each RCA to the line level inputs since each one will need to get a signal.
Maybe you have checked all that. I'm relatively new to all this, but this is what I focused on when I recently installed my speakers and I didn't have any problems. I would just really suggest looking at the manual if you haven't already.

thankyou for you reply
unfortunately I dont have any manuals as I have had these items for quite some time.
this is the converter I have.

the alpine speaker are getting their signal from the factory harness for the woofer. I did not use the tweeter wires.
so your saying that I need to Y the RCA's comming out of the converter? then use all 4 ports on the amp? if its bridged that is..

the 2nd picture shows that this amp has high level input. You can ditch the converter altogether and just wire the head unit output to the high level input; why make your setup more complicated than necessary?
you say the tweeter wires are not connected. you should make absolutely sure they are not touching; and re-verify the wires you are connecting your amp to behind the head unit--especially since you are not running new wire to the doors--which, by the way, you should just do. seriously. it's what, another 4 feet of wire to each door? and it gives you the option of running CORRECT guage wire to your doors, with no possibility of wiring problems?

2008 speaker wires are the same colors.
What you did should work, assuming you did it correctly, but I agree with Will that it would be easier to use the built-in high-level input instead of the converter.
Also, it should work without using Y-cables or bridging the amp. If it doesn't, using Ys and bridging will not fix it, as something else is preventing it from working as a single amp system.
Make sure the amp works by taking a portable MP3 player and using it for the input to the amp (RCA inputs). This will also check the wiring to the speakers. If it works fine then you know the problem is on the input side of the amp. If it doesn't, then either the amp is bad or the output wiring to the speakers is suspect.
You did CUT the speaker wires where you spliced to them for the converter and amp connections, right?.

yes, I cut the speaker wires. I am in the process of goin through everything to make sure I didnt get anything backwards, so hopefully I find something.
I would use the high level input on the amp but I dont have the plug for it.
