I am looking at the 9835 hu to replace the stock MY04. Reason, among others, is the internal amp. I do not want to mess with an external amp, just want to put in a new hu and new front speakers to get improved sound quality. Anyone have experience with this unit? Will it do what I want?

I would guess that the new 2005 units will be on displays at CES, and they always go on sale around April.

if anybody plans on selling their 9835.. please let me know. I'll most likely take it if the price is right.

Actually I might be selling it soon, if I can verify that the Pioneer 8600 will fit in my car. I will keep you posted.
That's going to be a tight fit- I just put a Pioneer 8600 in my GS-R and the faceplate sticks way out of the DIN opening, not sure the radio cover would close. Alpine faceplate is a little more flush.

"Taken from Alpine's 2005 Brochure:"

DVA-9965: full color screen, indash dvd player (no monitor)

CDA-9855: replaces the CDA-9835, same screen (not full color), preset buttons are gone, in its place is alpine's " glidetouch" control strip. it works like a laptop's touchpad.

GlideTouch Control
" Glidetouch is the newest and most revolutionary way to operate your head unit. As your finger glides across the bar, the source icons pop up. You can touch or click to make selections, and use the bar like a slider to make adjustments."

I have one with my name on it as soon as its out.

There's something missing in that press release. I read in another that selected 2005 model Alpines will be compatible with steering wheel control units, but that the interfaces will be provided by a third party, not Alpine. . .
