no means a couple of things... do you know what OHM sub you got and if it's a single or dual voice coil and how it's wired?

i have a 10w6v2, dual voice(pretty positive)
But, the jl 300/2 is hooked to my components, not my sub.
I have an alpine mrp-m650 for the sub.

I have the remote wire go to the jl 300/2, and then another remote wire connect to the 300/2 in the same place, but it goes to the alpine amp to power this amp. Does this make sense?
HU to jl 300/2(where two wires are twisted together), one wire then goes to to alpine to give it power as well.
I have 2 seperate RCAs, 2 channel. One to each amp. This worked perfect for my old setup, but the 300/2 has the RCA output spots too. Dont know if these should be hooked up differently. like RCA from HU to jl input, then RCA out the jl output to Alpine input. But, I didnt think this was the case.

ahh ok , you prooobabbly have a short somewhere... try this if you have easy access... play it and see how long it takes it to shut off... then unhook one set of the speaker wires from the amp... if it cuts off , unconnect those and reconnect the other ones... if it still cuts out you might have an amp problem. but if it keeps playing on one and not the other than that speakers has a short somewhere or the speaker is bad so check everyhting out.

I pulled one wire out, still cut out. Switched the wire i pulled out with the one still plugged in. CUT out. Then tried the other side, one at a time. Still cut out.
Could it be the amp? Im not seeing the Low ohm light lit up anymore. Maybe b/c the sunlight is hitting it and its hard to see. Could it be the amp then?
IM thinking about taking it into a car audio shop and having them test it. They should be able to tell me if it is the amp or my wires huh?

If it is my wires, where would i start? All the way from gettin larger power wire and grounds, and then runnning all new speaker wires?
If it is my wires, why would it work with my old amp, and not the new one. But if you read it, I was had a problem with my old amp once or twice, and after reconnecting everything, it all worked out....

What would make a short in the wire? How does this occur?

by short in the wire it honestly can be anything. It could be the tinsel leads that go from the the terminals of the speaker to the voice coil. It good be a short in the RCA's... it could just be a bad amp. Could potentially be a bad headunit RCA output considering you said it did it with your old amp. that's a hard thing to test without a DMM.

didn't you say that your power wire guage is 1/2 of the recommended size?? doesn't make sense that it is a short, if you can get to half volume before it cuts out... if it were a short, there would be no sound. Period. Makes more sense that it's the power wire; think about it, when it starts to draw a certain amount of current (i.e., past half volume) the amp isn't able to get the current it needs from the power wire... the "suck a milkshake through a straw" analogy.

yes and no on that one will... first he's got a sub amp and that pulls the most current draw so that would be the first to go since the internal "breaker" on it would flip if the draw was more than 100amps... the other JL amp on the other hand is 120..

So, recommended I should get new gauge of power wire and ground wire?
Or I should get a professional installer to test the amp?

I guess I know what im doing tomorrow.....STILL working to get my system right.

By the time im done screwing with this stuff, im going to be an audio expert.

lol best way to learn is to do it on your own.... do you know what gauge wire you have going to both amps?
