Default New Battery?

Well, scanning the FAQ i saw that maybe needing a new battery to with stand a new audio system, so saw that the Optima Yellow Top is suggested, so decided to go after it and look around, but tha problem is i recently found that some people had some problems with the type 51 or the type 51r, more on the side of the type 51.

So what do you guys recommend for a battery other than Optima?

I have had my Optima for 4 years I think and I've drained it down many times with no trouble at all. Course I custom fit the full size Optima in mine They don't just drop right in but they do fit with a little work.

Talking

There is a bad batch of Group 51 Optima Yellowtops out there. Mine died in less than a year. Once I gave the Optima rep. the serial number on the side, he said that they would send me my money back because they are no longer going to make Group 51.

The rep offered to send me another size, but not a Group 51 because it is not available now, nor would it be in the future. But I'm not sure what will fit without modifying, the battery try is quite narrow. So I passed and asked for the cash.

You might have better luck with one of the larger sizes, provided it can fit. I have used other optima sizes in other cars with no problems. One lasted six year in my 924S.

This is the first time a manufacturer offered to reimburse me in full.

I am in the same boat as John. My Optima is flawless (Yellowtop in the s2000 and Red Top in the RL)...and has been drained a ton of times.

HOWEVER, I will NOT recommend them. There is something seriously wrong with their quality control. Many members on the board has their Yellows crap out, as well as my friend with the RSX (5 months, 2 dead cells)

SOooo..I will go ahead and say, try Stinger (I think John is a Stinger dealer) or Lightning Audio.

Mine crapped out in about 6 months. And Im talking completely died as in I could drive around for 30min, shut off the car and then try to start it again 5 seconds later and it wouldn't start.

Im not expert, but I would guess that unless your planning on a big sub setup with like 400Wrms your current battery is just fine.

My second/auxiliary battery is a Stinger (yellowtop copycat) and I have never had a problem with it. ... I can play that sucker HARD with the car off for well over an hour with no issues.

here are my thoughts on Yellowtops:
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=345649

i'm currently on my 4th battery in the S2000. the first one (OEM) i killed, the 2nd and 3rd were defective Yellowtops. my 4th is currently a yellowtop b/c the guy felt bad and gave it to me for $50.

it IS my last Yellowtop. i figure it should right around September or October this year if it keeps pace w/ my previous 2.
