There is a bad batch of Group 51 Optima Yellowtops out there. Mine died in less than a year. Once I gave the Optima rep. the serial number on the side, he said that they would send me my money back because they are no longer going to make Group 51.

The rep offered to send me another size, but not a Group 51 because it is not available now, nor would it be in the future. But I'm not sure what will fit without modifying, the battery try is quite narrow. So I passed and asked for the cash.

You might have better luck with one of the larger sizes, provided it can fit. I have used other optima sizes in other cars with no problems. One lasted six year in my 924S.

This is the first time a manufacturer offered to reimburse me in full.
Which rep was this? I have 5 sitting at the shop and I talked to the east coast rep and he gave me a alot of crap about taking them back. He said no there isnt a problem with them and we should trickle charge them using them as an overflow battery off another one. Its all BS, Optima sucks. BTW we have all larger ones, not the 51's, but all yellow tops. Older Optimas where fine, but within the last year there all crap.

Im using a SVR battery, more cold cranking amps than the 51r. We've also used a few Tsuniami competitions.

the best battery period for honda sized batteries is kinetic HC1400. retail is $350 kinda pricey, but well worth it in my eyes.

i have used kinetic, optima, lightning audio and odyssey. kinetic is literally the longest lasting and most powerful battery i have ever used. have been using one for over 2 years with 0 problems.

EDIT: forgot to include a link http://www.kinetikaudio.com/hc1400.asp

Sucks to hear about all the problems with the YT Optimas... The RT Optima has been pretty reliable in the SUV... never replaced it in the 8 yrs... knock on wood.

For anyone thats looking someone on ebay is selling those Kinetik batteries for dirt cheap. I just ordered a HC800 because I don't plan on running any subs. Just front and rear speakers in the future.

Battery group 51: (LxWxH) 9.4" x 5.1" x 8.9". This is OEM
Kinetik KHC1400: (LxWxH) 9.0" x 5.3" x 8.1" (8.9" with post). This is the closest size that can be fit without any modification.
