New Custom Trunk Setup Idea
Can someone please post the dimensions of our trunk hole? Without the tool set just from top to very bottom where it curves.
A sound shop is going to take on my car as a project. I am going to attempt to put a 15" Kicker Solobaric L7(the square ones), in a custom made box in the trunk hole of my S2000. I am going to put a MTX Thunder 6500D Mono Class D amp, in the spare tire space. Someone please post the dimensions so I can see if the 15" will fit. Thanks.
P.S. I think I will be bass champion in the S2000 with this bad boy!
The box will also be made with handles, and the terminal on top, for easy removal for the track.

i don't see any way you'll be able to get enough air-space to make that sub sound good. Realistically that would only sound good in a large ported box, what you're thinking about would have to be a small sealed box. I haven't taken the trunk apart yet to see the space, but i'm guessing the absolute maximum air space you could get in a box would be about 1.5 cubes. You'll be better off with a 12" that can be in an enclusure that suits it. After all, the quality of car audio is "all in the install". I'm about to put in a setup that should give more than enough bass for anyone in their right mind. It is a 12" Audiomobile EVO-R sub running off a JBL 1200.1 (has been tested at almost 1400 watts at 2 ohms).
Just my .02, i don't know that it wouldn't work for sure but i think there are much better alternatives.

Does anyone know what the shape/size of the hole would be is if you were to remove the molded trunk liner? Im guessing that the underlying metal frame doesn't have rounded corners and stuff like the liner does. I'm wondering if that would allow a box to have a larger volume....
Of course you'd have to build a new carpeted false floor to cover everything if you went this route.

Yes the corners are basically rounded and roughly the same shape as the hole indicates, not sure of exaxt volume, but fill the hole with styro peanuts and put them in a square box to get an easily measurable volume and add approx 0.10-0.15 cu. ft. to allow for room gained from liner removale.
THere is a 1.5-2.0 inch lip around the top of the hole in the trunkl than the basic shape goes from there.

The L7's just need a huge amount of power. If you remove the tool kit and create a fiber box all the way up to the top of the well you should get it to fit but the airspace will be a issue as the L7's take up a lot of box space.
I would recommend as above getting two high quality 10's with the power you want to run into the back you will be better quality sound then with the single 15.
Heres a quick picture of what my setup looks like. I ended up making a flush setup but I have pictures of the fiber box if you want to see it. You can get a real quick estimate of the rear box with a tape measure though.
I believe that we got a 3.7 liter space but the subs cut into that by a significant amount. That 3.7 if from memory I believe that I wrote down the true calculated amount though if you really need it.

L7 have no sound quality at all. The bass is sloppy. They put out huge amounts of bass but they make the overall system sound like crap due to the quality of the bass. Trust me I have done many systems in my days and also have had over 10 different setups in my s2k. I change the system after every show I go to. You want some good tens get JL, Alpine Type R, A/D/S, Image Dynamics, Pheonix Gold. I have used almost everything out there.
i believe the following subs are the best 3 on the market, you can really take your pick from them and go 10 or 12...
Image Dynamics IDMAX (dual 2 or dual 4 ohm)
Adire Audio Brahma (dual 2 ohm)
Audiomobile EVO-R (single 4 or dual 4 ohm)
I'm personally going with the EVO-R because it was on sale, in stock (the others are super backordered due to the west coast strike), is the shallowest sub of the three, and can work really well in a small sealed box.

They are very good subwoofers. My friend measured my trunk and said he can make a box with 1.5cuft of air space, and he says if I power it with an MTX Thunder 1500watt amp that it will definetely pound and sound great. I will ask him what he thinks about putting a 12" in there.
