Default weaker fm reception after HU install

Sorry if this has been addressed before, but I was wondering if it's typical to get a weaker radio reception after upgrading the HU.
I just had a system installed this past weekend, and I've noticed that the FM reception(haven't tried AM yet) is a lot weaker. Stations I used to get fine with the OEM HU now seems to come in and out. I just want to make sure that it's not typical and it's an install problem before I bring it back to the installer to fix. I have an Alpine CDA-7894 if that makes a difference.

TIA.
-Sandy.

Make sure you hook up the power antenna lead on the harness since it's used as an antenna booster.

I honestly wasn't aware of this....can anyone else confirm.
Since upgrading my HU, I can still pick up every FM station under the sun, but no AM stations. The HU came out of another car, where it worked beautiful on both bands, so I was wondering what the difference was with the S2000 antenna. I suppose this could be it.

Thanks,

Jeff

The S2K antenna has a built in amplifier. Make sure you hook the wire from the old harness for the amp to the antenna power wire on the new HU.

if you are not using an amp you can just use the blue wire aka remote wire coming off your wiring harness and attach it to the antenna amplifier.

Turns out it was the amplified antenna that wasn't being supplied power. Now I get my FM stations and AM too.

Thanks for all the help...you guys rock!.
