Hi,

(I posted this in the UK forum as well before realising there was a specialist forum for this sort of stuff )

I'm speccing out an ICE install for my S and have retained some of the ICE that I had in my previous car. With the exception of the rear speakers listed below, all of the other stuff I already have and am eager to reuse...

From top to bottom:
  • Alpine CDA-7894RB headunit (+ KCE adaptor, etc)
  • Front: Infinity Kappa 65.5cs 6.5" component speakers (270W/90W RMS @ 4 ohm, freq response 45-21kHz)
  • Rear: Infinity Kappa 52.5i 2 way speakers (165W/55W RMS @ 4 ohm, freq response 55-21kHz)
  • Alpine MRV-F540 4/3/2 channel amp (running in 4 x 80W RMS @ 4 ohm)
Ive also got a JL Audio 10w3w4 (10") sub but Im probably going to leave that out for the moment since in my previous car the F540 was powering both the 65.5cs and the sub and was having problems at high load (protection circuit cutting in)

Are rear speakers definitely a good thing to have in the S? I've always been educated by fellow ICE enthusiasts not to bother with rear speakers at all, or have very minimum volume in the rears just for fill since it messes up the imaging otherwise. I guess with the S cockpit being so small this principal is slightly different?

I haven't thought about exactly where Im going to mount the amp yet, although it will be in the trunk somewhere.

I would appreciate any/all feedback on this proposed ICE setup - including any areas I am overlooking or should be thinking about.

Great Diagram. Im going to steal it and use it when I help others..

So, other than that, looks great. Before you buy the fronts....listen to the Infinity Kappa Perfects. I found them a bit better than the reference series.

Good luck!

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. The fronts I already have, brought over from my previous car setup. Everything bar the rear speakers I had already purchased for my previous car and is now sitting in my room waiting for installation in the S.. otherwise as you say I would've gone for the Infinity Perfects as they seem to give more RMS.

Nice choice in headunit Durzel, I bought the same one back in 2001 (and the KCE adaptor from the UK).

I personally make do without the rear speakers and instead give my Focal Utopia 165Ws plenty of power (ie 100W RMS per channel) and have no complaints.

I have the same amp. Mounted mine vertically in the trunk, next to the spare.

Excellent

Do you have any pics of your install? I was planning to mount mine vertically as well to save a bit of space.

Hmmm.. just had a panic attack.

Anyone who has Kappa 52.5i already know whether they will actually fit in the rear? I know the mounting depth is ok, but I'm not too sure about the magnet diameter.. the magnets look bigger in the pictures I've seen that the Kenwoods on Lucids site.
