2002-03 has plastic cones and seperate woofers/tweeters as you already know. The decks are also higher power output. I often recommend people with the 02-03 just add the rears to start and see if that's enough.

00-01 has paper cones that sound poorly brand new.

All I can say is after spending a crapload of cash on sub, top of the line JL components in the front, JL amps, new headunit, the system was shall we say "kick ass" (for the lack of a better word) compared to its original state. After hearing about the Lucid rear speaker posts, I went out and got a pair of Polk 6"1/2 speakers, upgraded the JL amp to drive them properly, carved them into the rear, set up the proper balance between rear and front components, and never looked back! ... and yes I am an audiophyle with B&O equipment all over my house.

Don't knock it till you try it! And for those in the NY area, I would be glad to show you what rears can do even paired with pertty high end components.

Zissis

P.S. Thanx Lucid for giving me the idea for the rears!

I recently purchased rears and door speakers from Lucid and I'm extermely pleased with the service. My questions were answered clearly and promptly and Lucid made certain that I had everything I needed for a quick, flawless installation. I thought about DIY by cutting the panels, fitting speakers, and fumbling with wiring, but I don't have much time. Lucid made it easy.

S2kRob and other "music comes from behind me" listeners. There is a middle ground here. I mostly have my "rear speakers (from lucid) to front speakers" fade setting somewhere around F3-F5 depending on top down/speed/road noise. I am an audiophile and I don't like my imaging to be coming from the back. However, by adjusting fade I get the fuller, richer sound described above WITHOUT the imaging shifting to the back. Sure, I'm only getting 50% more power, rather than 100% more, but I don't have to turn it up above 1-2 click past halfway, ever.

My decision focused on taking no space in the trunk. No amp, no sw. I did upgrade the door speakers to a component system, however and that made a big quality/imaging difference--especially in the high-end ranges. Lucid again provided a great recommendation with my personal constraints (component system with only stock power - Polk 3650).

Thanks again, Lucid, it makes for a huge difference in my car.

...Hmm...

Well I plan on replacing the Stock HU, Door Speakers, and adding a sub in the trunk (JL Stealth or box not sure). If I add the rear 4 inch speakers, then I'll need four RCA channels coming out of the head unit to a 4 channel amp. That will give me the ability to use the fade control so that the majority of the sound isn't blasting from the rear, at least it will give me flexibility to tune it. Then I guess I'll have to get a seperate amp for the sub.

Any 5 channels amps out there? I was going to go with the JL 300/4 for the door speakers and sub, but I guess I'll need the other two channels for the rear speakers. Does anyone else have a similar setup? Any recommendations? More importantly which sub mount did you use? JL Stealth mounts to the side while I've seen other boxes that drop into the tool bin, Can I still fit a set of golf clubs in the trunk, how about two?

Thank you.

Run the rears off of the HU, assuming your HU has an internal amp. Otherwise, the JL 500/5 is a good (but expensive) amp.

Your speakers look great. I considered installing rears myself but Lucid provides excellent product and for my dollar, the service and advise was worth the extra $.

SC_Highlander,

Is that how you have your rear speakers hooked up? In my car now, Integra Coupe, I have 100W RMS going to my door speaker components. I am powering the rear speakers off of the head unit, but I never hear/notice it.

I'm just wondering if anyone has that setup. Without hearing it I would think that it would be pointless to have the rear speakers if all I hear is coming from the front. That's why I mentioned powering them off of the HU. I'd like to make a decision on the setup so I can power everything off of one amp.
