New Sony head unit has built in Class D amp built in.
most decks are 50w x 4 but 16-18 watt rms so that is a nice improvement.
I just installed an Alpine deck and added there plug and play amp(ktp 445a) which bumps output to 45 watt rms by 4. I have Polk coaxials up front and added 5 by 7 in the rear and they sound way better then before. I mounted it on the driver side tranny tunnel near the top so it doesn't bother me at all. Definitely a must.

You guys are thinking 40 watt PEAK. most headunits have 50x4 peak wattage. this is 100x4 peak watts and 40x4 RMS
Be super mindful of the speakers you pick up with this. A lot of component speaker kits are going to want more than 40w per side. I see this head unit best fitted with a very low end component setup.
I bought one of these and installed it tonight.
I bought it primarily because of the USB port and its ability to play FLAC files.
However, it doesn't recognize the left hand volume up and down as separate buttons, i.e. they both RAISE the volume.
anyone have any ideas?
