Default Amp on the Factory Head Unit?

I haven't replaced my factory head unit yet, but want to add rear speakers first and power them all with an amp.

The guy at the stereo shop said that because of the lack of RC cable imputs in our factory deck, the system would be prone to heavy interference from the car. Rev the motor - hear it in the stereo. He explained that very few factory decks have the RC cable imputs.

I have an MY00 - to clarify.

Is this true?

Has anyone put an amp on their factory head unit and if so, was there any problems?

I'd appreciate any help you can provide.

You should have no problem putting an amplifier on your factory head unit.

Engine noise is usually a result of an improper installation, not the use of a factory headunit to an aftermarket amp.

You would need a line level converter to change the speaker level output of the HU and convert it to a low-level amp input (or get an amp that has this capability built in.) I think that you might be better though, amping the FRONT speakers and driving the rears off of the HU.

Yup...easiest way would be to just look for an amp with speaker level inputs.

If you're shopping in-store, just look for inputs that looks like this on the edge:

Or just look for the words speaker level inputs

Now we're talkin'.

Why is it so hard to find a decent stereo guy.
There are a million of them, and most are worthless and weak.

That's why I come to my S2KI brothers and sisters.

Watch the use of speaker level inputs. I tried them with my MTX and had serious engine noise. Double checked my ground, wiring, etc = no dice. Got frustrated and took it to a local S2000 expert shop in Sacramento, CA (Rolling Audio) to check my work and they agreed that all was good, but still hideous noise.

Switched to the low level converter/RCA cables and WHAM....problem solved.

Good Luck !!
