Default New/Upgraded V1?

Hi All,

Sorry if this information is already out here, but my search efforts yielded nothing.

I'm just about to order a Valentine V1 along with the Concealed Display, but I've recently heard bits and pieces about a new and/or upgraded V1 coming out soon? Is there any truth to this, or is this just a myth?

If this *is* true, can someone please share what the upgrades are all about (electronic/cosmetic/etc.)?

Thanks very much in advance!

Chances are, the upgrades are to the software or the internal components. I've owned my V1 since 96 and I've been through 2 minor upgrades and 1major. The 2 minor upgrades cost me nothing but shipping to Valentine. The major cost me alot, but these will hardly happen.

This is one great thing about V1, they never become obsolete because they offer the latest upgrades to current V1 owners for no or nominal cost.

Just give them a call. They will be straight up with you.

Here's what Valentine One customer service told me today.

Sometime this spring (they were not specific) they switched to a slightly smaller case with minor internal improvements including some improvement to the laser and some minor tweaking of the K and Ka.

The rep was not specific and didn't volunteer any info about K and Ka until I asked.

She said there would be an upgrade plan brought out in the fall but she doubted it would be worth the benefit to me.

I bought mine in November, 2000.

I recieved my V1 about a month ago and indeed the case is smaller. The faceplate is the same size but the body of the unit tapers a great deal more and it seems lighter too. Perhaps they reacted to the accusations of the V1 being large and unwieldy and acted on it!

BTW....I ordered the consealed display and returned it. Partly because it had a small crack, but after looking at some fitting options, I decided that there was no ideal place to put it in our cars. You give up too much information in the dash area and any other place was too far from my line of sight!

Thanks for your posts, everyone! Now I think I'm ready to take the plunge.

However, I too am now wondering about the Concealed Display. Stuck at a traffic light the other day, I was trying to figure out a decent location for my tastes. The only place I could come up with was just above the passenger's left knee next to the radio; but this might be a bit too far from line-of-sight, and I'm sure the CD will get bumped when someone gets in for a ride.

Well, thanks again for your help!

The picture above is not my car, but the concealed display in this picture is the exact location where mine is (leftmost part of the dash next to the A-pillar). My V1 is mounted on the windshield to the left of the rear view mirror.

I decided to go with the concealed display because w/o it, anyone behind me can see the flashing red lights, especially at night. I did not want to make it so obvious that I had a radar detector. Secondly, the visuals are more in my line of sight while driving than the display on the unit up on the windshield.

Good luck and enjoy.

If you don't mind doing a little cutting you could place your Concealed Display in the radio door

Thanks again guys. The A-pillar idea may work, but I'm afraid I'm not quite ready for radio-door surgery yet. Looks good, though.

BTW, has anybody tried placing the CD under the dash just above your right knee? I was looking around today, and I noticed there would be a pretty clear view through the wheel spokes (w/hands in the 10-2 positions) and there would still be a few inches of clearance for my knee. I realize this is quite a ways down from heads-up viewing, but it would definitely be well-concealed at night and a quick glance straight down shouldn't be too bad, right?

Thanks again.
