Newbie audio question
I'm looking to do a small audio setup in my car.
planning to keep the spare in the car for now.
I've seen a thread which someone put the Alpine MRP-F240 inside the spare tire (I cant find that thread no more). Im thinking to do the same and get that amp.
I want to power a pair of components and a 10"/12" sub with that amp. HU will be the 9857 when it comes out.
the sub box I want to get DK to make me.
my first question is, does the rms on the amp need to match up with the rms of the speakers? ie. will the type-S components(8-50wrms) sound better than a pair of type-R components(70w rms) with the MRP-F240 (40w x 4 rms)?
secondly, what 10" sub is a good matchup to use the other 2 channel of the amp?
thirdly, what amp kit should I be buying?
thanx!

Not sure on that one. What is the difference in sensitivity (if any)? More sensitive, the better they will respond to lower power. I think the Type-R's take a good 50-70wrms to get them going....not sure, though.
Here is my setup. I still have full use of the spare tire. I am running 110wrms x 2 to the front channels, and have channels 3/4 bridged for 440wrms to the sub (recently updated to a Boston G510-4).
Photos of my setup
I have a set of Blaupunkt OCDa660 components (picked up for $80 shipped). They can handle 80wrms (I am running 110 to them, and they handle it fine). I think the Type-R's can take 110 as well...not sure again.
Got the amp for $175 shipped to my door from sonicelectronix.com. Good power and great clarity.
That Alpine amp only puts out 100wrms when bridged (for sub application). That will not be enough, trust me! I do have a 10" Clarion SW10x sub that I am going to be selling in a week or so for about $40 + shipping. Great intro sub. Can handle 300wrms and has a Kevlar cone (strong). There are some cosmetic blemishes from stuff sliding in the trunk, that is why I am selling it for $40, but it still works GREAT. I recently upgraded to a Boston G5, so I dont need this one anymore. It is the sub in the photos.
For this (Alpine) amp, you will need a multi-channel 8G kit (comes with 2 sets of RCA's instead of 1 and comes with speaker wire for the doors). You can pick one up at www.knukonceptz.com for pretty cheap. Decent wires, too. If you go with a larger amp (like my Hifonics), you will need a 4G muti-channel amp kit.

I can make you a box once you let me know which sub you decide on.
If you buy a used sub just have it shipped to me so I can install it for you. Or if you would like a new one just let me know and I can supply the box with your sub installed and ready to go. I'm an Alphasonik dealer among others but Alpha makes a geat sub!

J/K. John does make a mean box, though! How much for a WLAURENT style enclosure, but with Fiberglass on the back for maximum mounting depth? Would it be possible to get my G5 into an enclosure like that?
