Alpine 4v pre-outs and JL 450/4
I have an alpine 9855 which has 4v pre-outs. I'm using a JL 450/4 to power my whole system. Alpine type R components up front and a WLaurent enclosure with an Audiobahn AW100T. (The sub arrives this week - for now I'm using my old kicker S5 enclosure from my last car)
Anyway - the amp seems to work great sans 1 minor issue. The manual says the "low voltage" input is for 200mV to 2V, and the "high voltage" is for 800mV to 8V.
Anyway - I like to have the sub on the HU set to about 60% to give me headroom to turn it up or down a little as desired. However, I believe this attenuates the signal and hence, lowers the voltatage. This means that it's probably closer to 2V at 60%, and 4V at 100%... SO here's the question, do I
a - set the JL to "low" and adjust the input gain accordingly
b- set the JL to "high" and turn the amp gain all the way up (only way to get to not get drowned out by the fronts)
Right now I'm going with (a), but I'm concerned about overdriving the input stage since it's set to operate at 2V or below.
Thoughts?
