No AM reception. FM fine.
I just upgraded to the Alpine CDA-9831 and I'm having one problem. I'm receiving FM reception with no trouble, but no AM reception. I didn't have this problem at all with the stock deck. I pulled the deck out and verified the antenna cable had a good connection. Is there anything else that I can check? The owners manual only mentions to make sure the antenna cable has a good connection. Not sure what else to do.
Thanks for the help.

Once you do that, your radio will be back to normal. Try a search or look back a couple of pages. Nice post at the top of Electronics forum about 2 1/2 weeks ago about it.
Chadwick is right on. Only I think it's most or even all aftermarket head units because my Pioneer has the same issue. I also think that Modifry or MacGyver have a "how-to" posted on thier web site. A search of the electronics forum on something like" AM power" should yield a wealth of info.
Thanks for the advice and suggestions guys. I will see if I can find that other post and also look at "how to" section at Modifry again.
Of course the server is down right now so I can't search for "am power"
I'll have to try again later.
Thanks,
Jerry

Power Antenna
The FM will improve too.

Everything is sounding good.
Yep, just that one little wire. But this novice didn't know it was important
Thanks guys for the help on this one. It is much appreciated.

Glad you got it working. How do you like your new H/U?
It is a big improvement over the stock HU. I like the extra power it has, but I will probably still add an amp in the near future. I also bought the S-Pods at the same time and had Crystal CPE-50's installed. They sound great and it is so nice to be able to hear music and AM talk while driving on the freeway with the top down.
I don't like that the Alpine doesn't have a simple bass and treble button, and I'm not sure how the i-personalize will work. I looked at the web site and I might play with it soon. Has anyone else used this feature?
I'm really looking forward to adding XM to my system. Hopefully that new XM receiver with Alpine adapter will come out soon.
