Default No bass from rear speakers

I just installed Lucid's Kenwood Exchelon X501 rear speakers. They certainly make a noticeable difference, but there is hardly any bass. Is this normal, or did I do something wrong with the install?
Thanks

are you sure you matched up the speaker connections? it sounds like their out of phase.

I'm pretty sure I did. The positive and negetive connections are sized differently on the speakers.

well are you *REALLY* sure, i mean are the tabs on the speakers labeled? i did the exact same thing when i put my rears in, the two tabs were different sizes so I assumed which one was + and which one was -, i guessed wrong! i couldn't believe i made this mistake (and i put off checking for a few weeks thinking this wasn't it) but i swapped them around and instant bass.

since you bought them from lucid, ask him which wire car side -> which wire on the speaker side.

Ok, I'll ask him. But the car side has a male and female plug and the speaker side has tabs... kinda foolproof, but anything's possible.
Thanks

if you can physically see the speaker - there is an easy test for in phase wiring to the speaker...
go to the section of wiring where you connect to the headunit. on the speaker side of the wiring, take a size D battery, and place the + lead on the + side of the battery and the - lead on the - negative side of the battery and watch the speaker. it should either push out or pull in (this won't harm your speakers, but will make a small 'pop'). then, do the same thing for the 2nd speaker... it SHOULD move the same direction. if not, you're phasing is wrong between where you test and the speaker.
of course, this won't help you if you're wiring to the headunit is wrong...

An easy way to check if the speakers are out of phase is by listening to the left and right speaker seperately. If the speakers sound ok when only one of them is played but the bass goes away when you listen to them both at the same time, this means they're out of phase.
