Default No sound - HU is powering on

Hey guys, i left my buddies house the other night and didnt have any sound from my cd player.

I have an alpine 9833 HU w/modifry IR DCI.
The previous owner also wired in some other speakers and bypassed the factory harness.

this happened to be before, but i just changed the source or turned it off and back on and it worked. Not this time

When I turn the HU on i hear a static chirp, but thats all I get, no white noise, nothing. The HU itself is fine, the cd plays, change presets, etc....

The only thing i did lately was install the modifry DCI and that was maybe 2-3 weeks ago? I know the HU is older....do you think it just went out? Im gonna try to meet up with a friend of mine with an alpine HU and plug it in as a quick troubleshooting method. Anyone run into this before?

Thanks!

You didn't push the mute button on the face of the unit by mistake... I know that sounds like a dumb question... but I've seen it happen before.

Nah its not that I hit the mute and it registered the input (as it does all others)
That is exactly what its acting like though, just no sound

With the modifry DCI, the mute function can get reversed if you shut off the car with the mute engaged. Could be that but sounds like you got that covered. Also, there is a function in the head unit to turn the internal amp on and off. Try cycling that Off/On. You also could have a short in the speaker leads shutting the amp down to protect itself.

Well.....looks like I have an intermittent failure

I went back out there (had the HU unplugged from the harness for approx an hour) and fired it back up to test that internal amp setting.. BTW thanks shedrivesit - I saw that setting but really didnt understand what it was. I know i tried it in both the on/off setting before....and hadnt been in there at all to do anything to mess with it.

So im guessing that my amp inside there might be slowly going out?
either way im back up and running and still scratching my head... As a field engineer/technician thats the worst feeling!
