I had it work fine in my 02' S. It depends I think on the adapter you use. OEM to cha-s634 Alpine. hmmm.....

are you sure you hooked up the correct lead from the harness. i think the s2k has a powered antenna, so if you use a harness that does not tap that wire you'll have weak radio. do a search this has been discussed before.
