OK, pics of my ghetto install...
http://www.reflexblue.org/c1/stereo_pics/
I have:
diamond audio components
kenwood MP3 8017 (is that the right model number?)
soundstream lil wonder (for the diamonds)
eclipse 10" aluminum cone sub in a temporary MTX box (which is too small)
PG ZX600ti (for the eclispe...took a long time to find a good amp for that damn sub...it's WAY power hungry!)
some generic 2 Farad capacitor (it works, no dimming...)
so anyways, I did the install myself (as you can tell) and it sounds pretty good to me. I'm not complaining.
Yeah, it doesn't look professional, but at least it meets my requirements for racing...in other words, I can very easily remove the sub box in like 10 secs and the amps are secured (or hidden...haha) enough so that the tech ppl stay off my back.
oh yeah, I put up pics of the old bazooka tube I used to use. It had decent bass (it was the 10" model) but it doesn't even come close to the eclipse sub...even in the undersized MTX box.
oh yeah...I'm working on getting a new fiberglass sub box (or the JL one when it comes out) that will be mounted in the trunk well...

the weight of the box and the friction of the carpet holds it VERY firmly in place. The box is very tight front to back, like, less than 1/2 inch clearance. So hard stops don't move it...and cornering, well, I corner VERY hard everyday (I'm only 22yrs old...) and it doesn't ever move side to side either. I guess it might rattle a bit, but it's not like I would notice it. The thing is so heavy though, I'm pretty sure it doesn't rattle. plus, it's in a trapezoid shape front to rear so that would help with keeping it from rattling...
So, for a box that I bought from good guys for $40, it's not half bad...it is just a half a cubic foot too small for the eclipse sub...

Seriously though, what should I do? cover the ends with something? it's my first cap install so I was a little confused on what to do...
jp - as suggested by shaner, I used household goop to glue the blocks of wood to the metal, and then screwed down the amp. I've been to the track like this, and autocrossed at least 6 times and everything is still fine.

When I was trying to figure out where I was going to cram all of my stereo equipment into this car, I ran into the same problem. This was my solution:

As a precaution against heat, I've added three 4" fans behind the amp rack. The amplifiers already use fans, but I wanted some additional tolerance given the small space I had to work with.
