Warning for Tweeters!
I decided to install my component kappas........ anyways the 6.5's went in great, with little modification to the speaker basket... and then i decided i was going to mount the tweeters in the doors. i traced circles in the doorpanals and cut away.... beautiful fit! the tweeters looked great! so profesional! i was happy to be done and i went to put the panals back on the door..... uh oh.
advice:
don't mount deep tweeters too high on the door panal... there is a beveled 3" of metal in the way. looks like i get to order new doorpanals. FUUUUCK!
please tell me where to get new ones!

Sorry about that unfortunate detail...thanks for cautioning others.
If you don't want to immediately get new door panels, you might try your surface-mount option for the tweeters.
Three drawbacks:
1) The hole in your door is larger than your surface-mount cup (you would have to get/make a plastic disc or something that was slightly larger than the hole, in order to mount the surface cup onto and to hide the hole)
2) You lose the adjustable-direction feature of the tweeters (maybe not a big deal)
3) Your tweeters will stick almost 1/2" further out from the door panel surface (may or may not be a big deal)
One major benefit: No new panels to buy/cut.
Just a thought...
