Ok so lets start over...
So I'll start...
To those that have been offened by me as of late I'm sorry for being a little harsh. I know you don't understand what I have to deal with here on a daily basis... it can be quite a task but I guess I've become a little harsh as time has gone by.
So if you were one of the people I jumped on or gave you a hard time to I apologize. Some deserved it, some didn't.
If you need to tell me off go ahead, I can dish it out but I can also take. So let it rip, just remember this is not a bashing thread just a thread to get something off your chests'.
I want this forum to be like the 'family it was before', and a place where people could take a joke and move on.
The way it used to be that way and I want it that way again.
Please post your real name and whatever else you want to write about yourself at the beinging of your post please.
My name is John, I live in MA. I have a 2002 s2k and its heavily modified.
I own a shop and I'm also a Mortgage broker and Telecommunications cabling designer(I try not to do this to much anymore though
)
----------------------------------------
So after talking to a few different member here as of late, I think we need to clear the air. It was stated to me that its not the way it used to be... And as it turns out that person was right. Many of the people here have been here a long time. They/we/us have seen the same question over and over and over... kinda makes one crazy.
This forum has changed, there are many, many new 'faces' here. Some of them think they know it all, some are here to help when they can, some just new and here to learn, some that work in the field of electronics and can put different myth's to rest, other know about this or that. We had for the longest time people that knew about different things. Some of those people have left for whatever the reason. Some are still here trying to help, but have gotten a little frustraed with this forum lately due do... whatever.
So let's clear the air...
Cheers to all.
Who's next?

You don't have an easy job and after 4 years of witnessing the kinds of individuals that can pop in and out of here on ocassion, your patience can be put to the test. You try to conduct "business" here according to the rules and still try to keep everyone happy. Sometimes, it's impossible to please everyone and after a while, you shouldn't have to bend over to unpleasant people and those who have the social skills of a turnip.Keep up the good work. I couldn't take it anymore.

I put out fires and pick up the pieces when people get into a fix and lose them.
I have not been an S owner long but this forum makes everything a lot easier. I know a little about a lot of things but not a lot of one thing. I know this forum is more open than the 350Z (former owner). Darknight1999 I have seen you help on many issues going through pages and pages of past postings. Everyone has their good days and bad days. Unfortantly some people experience bad days that others who have never been in that particular situation cannot understand. IMO you have done a terrific job and have answered a few of my questions (using the search). I appreciate your help and everyone elses. I would be happy to return the favor if ever need be.

My name is Peter and I live in the SF Bay Area. I've been an s2k owner since 2003, and s2k enthusiast since 1999, and a music lover and stereo junkie as long as I can remember. I have always recognized you for your stickies and resources which have helped me a great deal in my own audio adventures. But I agree with what Modifry said. Modifry has contributed a lot to the S2k community without ever being boastful or condescending about it. I appreciate that you took the time to read what he said as I don't think he said it just to make a jab at you.
As moderator you do have the right to your opinion, and to run this forum as you wish. But it's sad when you just blow people off without even giving them a chance to explain themselves, what experience they have and what they can bring to the table. It's everyone's loss including yours. I know for a fact that some of these people are not the clowns you think they are, and that you'd realize this if you could meet them and maybe hear what they have done with whatever their audio budget and/or goals are for the car. Ironically this is the same frustration you have in feeling that people don't understand how much you know because they haven't met you and seen/heard what you've done.
Respect is a 2 way street, no matter who you are. Everyone who knows you has testified that you are a great guy and know your shit. I don't doubt that. But you can't expect people to respect you if you're not willing to give them the same respect in return, on the internet as in real life.
It shouldn't be like this, and it doesn't need to be. While there are some interesting audio and car audio forums out there, when it comes to what will work in an S2000 and what won't, this is IT. We spend so much time and effort on our hobby, we should continue to help and learn from each other. That's all I wanted to get off my chest and I thank you for posting this topic to hear us out.

My name is Dierk. Is it OK to withhold my last name? I used to live in the Bay Area; now I live in Denver. I am a computer programmer by profession. I've owned my NFR 2002 S2K since the summer of 2002 when I bought it brand new.
I hear where you're coming from, darkknight1999. At the same time I think it takes courage to invite people to air their gripes. My hat's off to you for that as well.
Like someone said above, this forum is it for S2K people who want a decent stereo. There just isn't any other place like it on the web. I've benefitted greatly from your input and that of the other EJs here.
If my questions seem stupid at times, that's because they probably are. I'm just a weekend hacker/warrior/hobbyist. My playback system matters to me because I like music. With all my other commitments, though, I just don't have the time to learn as much about this hobby as I'd like.
I'm also stubborn and slow. You usually know the best way to do something and it means a lot that you're willing to share freely what you know. If the people you try to help choose a different path, that's just not your fault. "You can lead a horse to water..."
So keep up the good work, darkknight1999, and thanks for the chance to sound off.

Hi, my name is John S., got my S2000 2 months ago, and had replaced the head unit and bi-wired the door speakers within the first two weeks. I once voided the warranty on a Playstation 10 minutes after I got it home. I designed and built a home speaker system with an active crossover the summer after I graduated from college (ye gods, more than 10 years ago!). It used an electronically augmented bass tuning based on an article in JAES by Thiele. A bit unorthodox, but it sounds great. My first foray into car audio (but not the first into car electrical mods) was last year, selecting Peerless woofers and Aurasound mid-tweeters to be driven by an Alpine head unit in my Miata.
I want to give cheers to Bob B. (Modifry) mainly for his useful gizmos and the help and advice he's given me in pursuing my own electronics projects on the S2000 (and the Miata before that).
The things I've learned so far on this forum are the easy way to feed wires into the doors (thanks to jeffbrig's howto), and that the ignore function doesn't work on moderators -- that has to be done by willpower alone. This topic gives me hope that the atmosphere may lighten up in the Electronics forum, but if not you can find me over in Racing & Competition.

Hi my name is Steve and i no longer own a s2000.. had two but moved on to bigger and better things
I agree this place has changed over the past year or so some for the good and some for the not so good BUT this is stil the best damn car board around.
one can not turn back the clock so if you do not like it here or you do not like what some people say - don't read the posts - find another board or just keep it to yourself
btw i live in MA and "collect cash" for money
as i stated before John and I way back and even though some of his posts may seem harsh - if you've had the opertunity to met John you'll quickly realize that you won't find a better guy who will go out of his way to help when he is asked...

Hi!! My name is Matt, i'm from Australia and a relatively new S2000 owner (March).
I run/manage a car audio business here, but also do alot of installs and custom installs in my spare time. i'm on this forum everyday, and i found myself lately not replying to many electronics threads..Not meaning to sound rude but i'm over the same questions which have been posted time and time again..
Also get annoyed at the questions that shouldn't be there..
What speakers should i run?
I have $2000, what should i buy?
Can i interface my ipod?
What size speakers have i got?
Is there an interface for dash controls?
Don't get me wrong, there alot of very good topics started by members (thumbs up) i guess i'm just giving my 2cents...

Just tuned again, had to drive to Columbia SC to fix a server problem last night.
First off, I didn't start all this crap just for fun. I was hoping to get a few people's attention. Looks like I did, and that pleases me no end because that means I'll be continuing my participation in the greatest car forum on the planet. I think John has shown exemplory leadership and extreme courage in admitting that things could be better and by coming forward to make a fresh start. From this point forward, he will have my 100% support on this forum. I wish I could provide help with moderating, but a full-time travelling job and a separate personal business keep me terribly busy.
Just for the record, I think (correction - I KNOW) that S2000 owners are something special. I've dealt with the public for many years and there is just something different, something that's "a cut above" about S2000 owners that makes sharing information, good times, and doing business with them more fun and less trouble than with the general public. I couldn't list the number of owners who have gone out of their way to share information, help work on my car, or just send me a complimentary email in the past 5 years. I hope to continue my particapation in this forum for years to come, as I plan to hold off upgrading to a new S till the '08 models come out. (turbo, v6, come on Honda do something interesting)
OK, enough "old stuff, on to the "fresh start". As part of my re-introduction into this forum I'll tell you a little about myself, probably more than you want to know. But this will give those of you that haven't met me a better understanding of my somewhat unusual personality.
Hi all, my name is Bob and I live in Atlanta. I drive a MY00 Silverstone, purchased new in Sept 2000, now with 162k miles on it, 95k of which are with a Comptech SC. It has a few electronic mods but other than the SC is mostly stock.
My 'real' job is with a big electronic security company where I provide tech support for our biggest customer, a big financial institution based in Charlotte NC. (lots of big stuff going on here). I have a high school education but my business card says "Engineer". (no, I don't print my own)
I'm old enough to remember when computers had 2 floppies and no hard drive. 8" floppies.
Electronics/audio has been a hobby since I was a youngster, and being a pathological introvert I spent my childhood at a workbench playing with transistors insead of outside playing ball with the neighbors.
In elementary school I used to read encyclopedias for fun. Can you say "nerd"?
At age 10 I was "too young to use a soldering iron unsupervised" so I made my own with 2 paper clips and the No.6 dry cell from my bother's Cox model airplane. Suddenly a soldering iron looked pretty safe to my parents. I think I have about 15 soldering irons now.
I once memorized pi out to 50 or 60 decimal places just so I could spout it off when the teacher asked for it. Took 3 months before she asked, but it was worth it. I wish I still had that kind of patience.
I built my first speaker at age 12. No,I didn't build a box, I built the speaker. Did it work? Yes. Did it sound good? No. But what do you expect for cardboard, notebook paper and Elmers glue. (and the obligatory magnet wire and magnet)
I made straight A's in Physics (without studying) but failed Health.
In 1978 I was driving a 68VW bug with 3x it's normal HP and a home-made rev-limiter/shift beeper. Also keyless push-button ignition, keyless entry, and a remote-controlled horn. Imagine that.
In the early 80's I had a remote-control ceiling fan in my house and a motion-activate light on my front porch. This was before either product was commercially available. I missed out on those two.
The hardest thing I ever had to learn was ballroom dancing with my wife.
The hardest thing I haven't quite learned is how to communicate with my wife.
One thing I haven't done but want to - see the USA.
