Default Old posting re: '05 Sliding Cupholder Lid

I saw an old posting once where a member actually hand-drew the mechanics of the sliding lid. Can't find it anymore. Basically, I took my center console out today to pull the radio out. After I put everything back, the sliding lid for the cupholder became stuck. It wouldn't smoothly slide back when I press the open button. After banging on a couple of areas, it now slides back, but not as fast/smoothly as before. It makes it look really cheap.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

This may sound stupid but did you clean it and put a little drop of oil on the track?

There is a push tab right in the middle of the piece, where the door slides back, and this will stick the door. Push down in the middle of the piece and see if it pops into place and the door frees up.

Sadly, it IS really cheap. I had the same problem after my recent stereo upgrade. Turns out one or my speaker cables (i fished the RCA's and speaker wire through the center) was rubbing on the coil spring. So that's one thing to check for.

Anyway - even after a moved the cable, the mechanism was still clunky. I think the bending and twisting of popping the center console out misaligns the tracks. I loosened and re-tighted the track screws and sprayed some lithium grease on the coil spring and track. voila - better than new.
