Opinions on the New alpine D-class 4 CH amps?
it's D class and significantly smaller than comparable A/B class amps.

One thing is that they are more effecient and produce less heat. but how's the sound quality if anyone has personal experience.
I'll be running Diamond Audio Hex 600s components and Infinity perfect 12VQ sub
Or would I be better off just going with one of A/B class amps

I have Boston Pro60 components (125w 3ohm)
and ID ID8" sub (150w)
I was using JBL GTO 75.4 sub
104/ channel
288/ bridged
Now im using PDX 4.150
150/ channel
300/ bridged
Comparatively, the JBL seemed MUCH stronger, especially bridged mode pushing the sub. People say the PDX is underrated, and it benches at 175+, but I very much doubt that.
The PDX is class D for efficiency, and it generates output in a boolean "digital-like" manner where it is full on-off signal, combined with some sort of time-variant filter where ultimate it outputs a smooth waveform. A *real* electrical engineer can clarify this, but to my ears, I'm losing more high-end *detail* and overall it does not sound as *smooth* as the GTO
However, at the end of the day, I'm satisfied with it (at the 400$ I paid for it , not the 700$ MSRP):
1) My ****ing GTO broke - some channels starting cutting out. Replaced it with another GTO and it did the same thing
2) The PDX is TINY. In a small car with limited space it is a real boon. I have it sitting INSIDE the spare wheel in the wheel compartment so it is HIDDEN out of sight (rather than sitting atop tool well)
3) Convertible car is noisy anyway, so sound quality wasnt my top criteria
Its hidden out of the way, it amplifies the sound enough for my liking, and most importantly it works

Thanks for the great review.
In myold s2 I had a JL 450/4 amp. but I dont' really want to spend that much on amp again.. I drove with the top down almost every day, so as long sq is decent. I think i'll be ok.

Personally, I'd never use the PDX series of amplifiers. But, then, I'm really not a fan of Alpine.
I have an Audison 4.300 powering my Hex S600s. I love the quality of the signal, and it fits behind my seat. It is, however, an expensive brand of amps (for good reason).
I say go to different shops, listen to the same music with the same HU, same speakers, and diff amps to find out what you really like. Amplifier circuitry makes a HUGE difference in sound reproduction - whether people realize it or not.
I'll never go with a D-class amplifier for my mids/highs. I don't care how "high-tech" they are, they cannot match the sound quality of an A/B due to the switching nature of a D-class amplifier.

Oh, and if you haven't picked up your Infinity sub yet...check out the Mag V4 here:
www.stereointegrity.com
I have mine run on a JL 500/1 and I need to turn the gain down (again) as it's overpowering my components a bit.
500-1000W RMS
1cu ft enclosure (size of most tool well boxes)
5.5" mounting depth (very shallow)
$250 shipped
Built for true SQ, but has plenty of SPL as well.

As for a sub. I have IDmax12 V2. but it was too much. Had it on my element and swapped it out with Perfect10DVQ.
I love the IDmax12v2. but I want to get something that can be powered with less. And infinity perfect 12 runs good with low power. and they can be had for cheap.
BTW how do you like your HEXes.. i'm hearing good reviews about them and it seems they have shallower mount thatn the Infinity perfect 6.1
I ran the perfect components on my MY02 and liked them but didn't like how big theywere.
I'm on the brink of buying the HES series since they are same price. And I love strong mids in speakers.

This isn't that expensive.. for 4 channel amp.. and Audison is a good brand?
