Default Options for music

So ive never really cared much about audio and know almost nothing about it, but I do think the stock S2000 speakers suck (I have a 2002) and im planning a LONG road trip this summer so I need a better way to play my own music. What are my options when it comes to better speakers and playing my own music. The ones im thinking of are
Burning a bunch of CDs and using them. This would be almost no work but would be a hassle to change CDs and trying to find songs and actually making the CDs
Getting a head unit that I could plug a AUX cable into. The thing about this is I think most aftermarket head units look ricey and I do not want to lose my hand controls.
Or I can use a FM transmitter. Problem with that is when I used to use one it took up space on the cig lighter that I need for charging my phone and the music played really quiet, I could barely hear it top down. Maybe my FM transmitter just sucked, in which case id be willing to buy a better one.

So is there any way I can plug in a Ipod/aux while retaining my hand controls and have good quality music?

Also if im looking to upgrade speakers which ones should I look at and how much can I expect to pay? Id like them to be able to take some bass, since the stock speakers are fine for like rock music but when I play bass heavy music they just sound shitty.

Do a search on this forum topic. Lots of choices for what you're looking at. Alpine, Pioneer, and Kenwood HU's are the most popular units. Get a Modifry DCI so you can use the dash stereo controls.

There's just a lot of choices depending you how much you want to spend. Do some searches and read.
