Passport 9500i
I've been a loyal user of the V1 for over 5 years now. I can say that it has been more useful than many other devices (outside of my Tivo of course) than I've ever bought.
However, this GPS technology is absolutely awesome and can if proven effective, change the face of radar detection forever.
It seems Escort has the pulse of the "current" state of affairs in radar detection.
For users in urban settings, it has become more and more of a chore to use the detector because of the uncontrolled saturation of X and now K band radar for automatic doors and such. I turned off the X band detection on my V1 years ago since no police use it here. However, I can't afford to turn off the K band sice it's still in widespread use. But, it is now flooded with auto doors that use this band.
If the V1 could keep all its inherent qualities and add this GPS techonlogy, it will again be unbeatable. It will make the detector more useful as you will "train" your unit about your surroundings and the alerts that you do get will have a higher chance of being actual police radar. The rest of the time you get to enjoy the silence.
And if you are in an area that your detector is not "trained" on, it will not alert you of radar when you are moving very slowly as through a parking lot or while sitting a traffic light! Brilliant. The speed sensitive volume is also very interesting to me as I sometimes drive onto the highway in my noisy car or with the stereo loud and forget that I've turned the volume down while driving through all the false alerts on my way to the interstate.
I've had people in the car that ask me about the detector and show interest in buying one until they realize that the darned thing beeps all the time in the city. The incessant alerts bore all but the most hardcore users like myself.
It's my belief that all radar detector manufacturers would be wise to adopt and perfect this technology.

However, I do see a flaw in the GPS. Its great for FALSE alarms, but bad for real ones. Cops dont always hang out at the same spot (in my area anyway), so when a REAL cop site is stored, and next time there is no cop there, that location becomes a false alarm. I do think its cool, but cops can easily outsmart that gimmick by not hiding in the same spot all the time. As far as Im concerned, for $400, the arrows are more useful.

Oh I agree completely...and the funny thing is that I really didn't buy mine to speed on the highway. I got pulled over doing 105 a few years back and I learned my lesson. I just like to speed sometimes...and especially around town when the roads are clear. I consider my radar detector one of my most practical mods.

It will only pipe up when there is something to be concerned about.
That is just as priceless as the arrows.

No doubt the arrows are the bomb. However, a detector that rarely gives you a false alarm since it knows where they all are in your "neighborhood" is priceless.

My V1 has saved me from many tickets over the years but I find myself fiddling with the volume control more and more or hitting mute when at traffic lights, or when driving by a shopping center, etc.
