Default Pictures of Amp install over fuel fill

Hey Everyone,

I just bought a Sony XM-1805GX 5 channel amp and it looks like the best place to put it is next to the spare tire. What is everyone doing to mount an amp in this location? I know people have done this already. I don't want it to move around and also want to make sure it won't overheat. If you have any pictures, please post them.

Thanks

Mine just sits there. No need to secure it. The foam holds it in. The negative is when you push it on a hot day it can overheat.

After speaking with an installer that has worked with 20+ S2000's, I've decided not to mount an amp next to the spare over the fuel fill. According to the installer, this move is quite risky. The corners of amps are usually very hard and potentially very sharp. If an accident were to occur, there is a possibility of the amp easily slicing through your gas tank. Obviously, a gas leak in an accident is disastrous. I'm probably being over cautious, but you never know.

Placed my 4 - channel amp on some MDF and placed it inside the spare tire.

Ferris,

How do you like that amp? I'm going to be installing that in my brother's RSX-S soon. I recommended that unit to him to run 2 10's in parallel and the 4 stock locations. Lemme know. Thanks.

I finally install my amp today. Took almost 4 hours to run all the cables unistall and reinstall the radio. After weeks of research as to where I would place the amp, I came up with a location that I haven't seen anyone else use. I placed it to the left of the spare tire upright in the trunck compartment. After reading numerous messages about people overheating and having concers over the location near the fuel fill tube, this is what I have come up with.

It is held in by a single screw on the bottom right which goes into the round bar just behind the gray cover panels. The top left is locked in behind the trunck lid "springs". It's not going anywhere and looks very clean.

BTW. With the amp, things sound much clearer. I will be installing my JL Stealthbox next weekend and am looking forward to the additional low end.

Take care,

Paul
