Polk DB650's?
Just as the title states...I have a shot to pick these up (slightly used 2 weeks) for $50 ...I plan on having a system installed in my car within the next few months, should I jump on these now, or just wait to have everything done? Also I hear Bestbuy is cheaper source of purchasing and having everything installed...
I woudln't go to best buy to get stuff installed... if your looking for a cheaper solution then a custom shop go to circuit city, then train there people and solder wires so you don't have the chance of corrosion and "crimp caps" snaping , exposing wires and grounding out , ect... Polk DB's are pretty good speaker , good bass output and decent highs. I'd compare then on the same lines as infinity's base line. Hope this helps some (oh FYI just saw this , circuit has buy one get one half off on polk)
Some like the Polks, others (like myself) dislike the Polks.
I think this will be the 3rd time I've said this to you, but go audition them and the competition and select what you feel is best for the music you listen to.

I also suggest that you should listen to the various choices in the price range that you are comfortable with. Even if you don't want to go crazy and get $500 (or more!) speakers, you still ought to choose ones that sound good to you, not buy based on getting a good deal or something. After all, you are most likely going to be spending hundreds of hours listening to them. You also should listen to them with at least a similar setup to what you intend to install - just a headunit? An amp? How much power? Are the tone controls, etc. set to neutral for comparison? All of these things can make a huge difference.
Personally, I thought that the Polks were ssssibiliant sounding instead of accurate for the music I like. I much preferred Infinity References and after living with them for a while I am still very happy with my choice. I also went with just a 'high power' headunit rather than a separate amp because I decided that it was adequate for my needs - I was not interested in sharing my music with everyone else and I decided that I did not need to be able to blast it over the road noise when going 75 on the highway with the top down. Again, I am happy with my choice. I might still add a sub later, but for now the space is more important to me than the bass extension.
You did not say anything about the rest of your intended system (possibly another thread?). That could matter a lot. You need to match the impedance and efficiency of your intended speakers with the output of your headunit or amp. You need to take whether you intend to run a sub into account. What about rear speakers in SPODs or in the panels behind the seats? I am not saying that you must have those, only that you should think about what you really intend to accomplish before buying anything.
Another comment - I installed a Pioneer HU, Modifry's DCI, speaker cables, and the Infinities in one day. I am not a pro-installer, just someone who can solder and operate a screwdriver. Most of my time was spent figuring out how I wanted to mount the speakers and crossovers and in running the speaker cables. If you want to save some money, this is where it might make sense. And if you are careful and do your research using the links from this site, you just might do a better job than Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. They have experience, but its your beloved car.

You're right...I will have to check em out at that place on Dale Mabry before I decide to purchase!!!
I also offered to meet up with you somewhere so you could hear my system (which isn't all that crazy of a system - alpine hu, type-s components, infinity basslink) so you could hear the Alpine's in a S2K. If you want to do that, just let me know, I don't mind doing so.
