Turn get a firm grip on the front grill and turn counterclockwise. They they should come out. Mine came without any of the mounts installed in the tweeters.

If you look closely there is a notch that locks the tweeter into the mount, so you have to turn it counterclockwise to release.

If you are referring to the plastic that surrounds the tweeter itself. That is glued on, and you cannot remove it without damaging the tweeters. Best to trim whatever you are mounting them to, than to damage these tweeters.

I'm told that Buwalda and HAT sell a version of this tweeter for serious stupid $$$$$$$$, no badging so you don't know who makes them.

Just wanted to see if we are on the same page.
Below is a pic of the tweeter and I circled the housing.
How do I get it out of that housing so I can put it on one of the other 3 housing ??
Seems like its glued on there.

On another note, installing this is taking alot of my time.
I don't think I spent this much time installing 2 amps.
I did finally run wires through the door and I have an AP1 so I also need to install the tweeter in another place.

I also got a few answer from people at DIYaudio on how to get the tweeter off.

I managed to get 1 door door.
Had I tackled the other door, I might be up till 4am trying to get it done.
Sounds awesome.
Heres a picture of 1 door.

Skipped work today and got the rest installed.
The other door was much easier as I had a grasp of what to do.
I didn't want to cut any holes in the door so I did the metal hinge that I saw someone else on here did it.

OH, and I finally got the damm tweeter out of the housing.
It was frustrating me to no end.
If you take off the tweeter grill, there are 2 small holes that you can insert a small screwdriver to turn it.
Even that I couldn't get it to budge.
So I tried turning it clockwise and it came lose.
Now, I think I need to get back out there, take off the other tweeters and install these.

There are also two small holes which you can see when you remove the grills. There is a small stainless steel pin with right angle sides. I believe that is the tool that you can use to loosen a stuck tweeter. I did not need to do this. But your problem showed me what this part is used for. Too bad it was not mentioned in the manual.

Very nice looking install. I used to have tweeter mounted there too. But this time I decided to put them in the stock location. My car came with the rounded pods. I like the flush look on them.

It took me a long time to install these speakers too. But I spaced it over three weekends and used the middle of the week to test.

Take care

Those stupid tweeters frustrated me to no end.
After I figured out on how to get it out, somebody at DIYaudio showed a pic of the tool to get it out.
Seriously, who would have thought to remove the grills, find that little tool that used to turn the tweeter ??? Maybe just a line or 2 in the manual to let us know ??
I did went back and switch tweeters. The PPI definately sound better.

Figured out how to mount second set in the rear. You must either bend some metal or cut it. I preferred to bend it, used vise grips and a small hammer to shape the metal to clear the magnet of the speaker. I fashioned 3/4" spacers attached it to the rear panel. Also enlarged the hole too.

Fits very well. But it took a lot of time to do it right. About a day and one half. Mounted the crossovers to the back wall behind the seats.

Great speakers and with four of them now, the sound is incredible.

Tried without the fill and with the fill and like all of them better.

Also mounted rear tweeters on a small metal brace attached to the top of the rear top compartment. Tweeters are just below ear level, and not blocked by the seats.
