Default Problem with recently installed sub and amp

I recently installed this sub (https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...pic=452204&hl=) which is 300w RMS/600w Peak power running off a JVC 250W max amp (temporarily). But my sub keeps going in and out. Does anyone have any ideas about what I should look into? Thanks in advanced
-Chris

Sounds like you need a better amp. How far is the gain turned up on that puppy? When the amp gets too hot, it will shut itself off until the temp comes down enough. Then it will play again until it over heats and shuts off again. This will keep repeating.

PLease provide model number of equipment and wiring configuration of amp to sub. You could be overloading the amp.

I think you may be right, The gain wasnt that high before, but I have it turned all the way down to MIN and it has been shutting off a lot less since...but is this bad to let happen until I purchase a more pwoerful amp? will I damage either the sub or amp by letting this happen?

It could also be that you are driving the amp at too low an impedance. For example, if that amp was only stable for 4ohm load and you had a sub that was presenting a 2ohm load, it may be drawing too much on the amp. Cub is right that the model number for am and sub plus how you wired it is needed to help you out.

The number one issue I see in amp installs is a bad ground. If you have a poor ground, you could still get the amp to run but then see intermittent failures. You can try running a ground line all the way back to the battery and see if you still have problems. If so, then it's more likely to be what the previous posts suggested.

Also, where is the amp located? It needs some airflow to keep itself cool.

This is what I'm thinking.....and is supported by less problems with lower gain.
You are probably tripping some kind of current limiting protection.

Thermal protections once tripped, usually take a little longer to come back on.

So...cough it up...model numbers and wiring configuration.
