Default Question regarding Modifry's dash bracket

I have a question for those of you who have purchased and used/install Modifry's dash bracket for a GPS, iPod, phone, etc.

My Garmin Nuvi 650 came with a suction cup mount that is attached by a Nuvi ball to the piece that connnects to the rear of the GPS unit.

I forcibly pulled the ball out of the piece, and luckily it did not break. However, Modifry's Nuvi ball seemed to be a bit larger than the stock Garmin ball and wouldn't snap back into place. I was forced to remove the metal ring, and that gave me some room to snap the ball in.

However, I cannot get the metal ring back in place. Is it necessary? Modifry's Nuvi ball seems VERY secure in it, and seems even tighter than Garmin's ball.

Thanks, and apologies if my explanation was hard to understand.

I think you answered your own question

if it's tight and it wont come out - you should be fine

shamoo, I don't know if the install for Nuvi 650 is any different from Nuvi 660. If it's the same you can check out back-cracker's review/install from this link:

Nuvi 660 install

Page 4 of the thread has pics of the nuvi ball installation.

Thanks! Unfortunately, I was itching to get this installed so much that I figured it out myself. And yep, the 660 is the same as the 650, except the 660 has Bluetooth and FM transmitter.

Now I need to figure out how to hardwire it in that position. Once I do, I can also get it to sound through the car's speakers through it's headphone jack output.

I just applied some force to my GPS bracket to Modifry's ballhead, and popped in quite nicely! If the ballhead gets loose over time (I don't know if it will, but if you pivot a lot), you might want to try putting the clip back in there. I think it's there to keep wear down.
