no need to start the debate over the V1 and k40 again as i'm sure both units are great. I've been using my V1 for about a month now and LOVE the arrows and while russ is correct in says most radar comes from the front i love when the unit tells me there is an officer coming from behind - the range is wonderful (I'm coming from an escort solo) - so the choice is yours good thing about the v1 is that it's upgradable

I run my unit in advanced mode all the time and do pick up a few false alarms but you can always filter those out

In any event good luck with your choice

Bill:
I have a V1. Falsies are rare, and when they occur they usually show up with large numbers. So It'll go off on the Xband, and the bogie number will jump to 4 or 6 or something. I'm thinking these things are expensive, and most of us know fellow s2k'ers, you should try to borrow one for a while. Try before you buy sort of thing. At any rate, I'm happy with mine.

How good are either of these units at filtering out false signals?

I won't dispute that the V1 is an excellent product but FYI the 8500 X50 claims to be upgradeable as well.

I had a Solo for over 4 years and now have the Solo 2 (8 months) and have never been pulled over in my 00 or 04 S2000. Very reliable and ample warning when batteries are low. I like the convenience of moving it from car to car. But, common sense and awareness have contributed to my good fortune!

I owned the Passport 8500 for 3 years and now own the Passport 8500 X50. The older 8500 model was very good, but the 8500 X50 has noticeably better detection range on K and Ka bands.

I've had my V1 for a good 3 years or so now, and absolutely love it. I never leave home without it, no matter what vehicle I am driving.

With the Advanced Logic mode (upper case L in the display), I rarely get falses and the sensitivity seems to be great. Perhaps those of you that are getting a lot of falses with the V1 do not have logic mode or advanced logic mode turned on to filter it out.

The only times the V1 has EVER failed me was when a cop paced me and I wasn't paying attention in the rearview mirror or if I got clocked by air.
