Cops can detect ALL DETECTORS !!!
Whatever...I can detect anything they have. It is all a matter of who detects who first. I got my money on my detector.

I had a valentine one, and sold it because in the 2 years I had it, it never helped. Cops use laser around my area now, so any detector is useless. Funny thing is I never got a ticket in those 2 years, watch me get one now that I sold it. Valentine has a 30 day free trial and it keeps its value well. I sold mine for 300 to a friend, 400 being the price new. I hear the passport 8500 is also good, but valentine has arrows.
Well, that depends.

Practically all the Maryland cops (State Trooper and county police) use lasers now. 2 ~ 3 years ago, they just aim, fire, and you are done. Unless you were not the intended 'target', any radar/laser detectors are pretty much useless.

However, during the past year, I've noticed that the cops are shooting the laser twice. In sever instances, I thought I was toast, after been hit by laser. What do you do when your radar detector start going off? You slow down right? What I noticed is that the cops will 'reacquire' your speed the second time, by hitting you with laser again. Usually by this time I am down to, um, tolerable speeds. Got away from them several times in the past year.

I don't know if that procedure applies to any places outside of Maryland, or even outside the I-95, I-495, and I-270, or outside of Montgomery County, but that has been my experience.

BTW, I have a V1. It's the 2nd one now. First one's laser detection went haywire and I went with their "upgrade" for $200. Basically they swap the old V1 with a new V1 for half the price. I was dreading to spent another $400, but half of that, I took it without even thinking. I guess owning a V1 has other advantages besides the pointing arrows and great detection ranges.

V1 is usually regarded as the best. I have a Bel in each car and have used Bel's for over 15 years. Have never been unsatisfied or caught, knock on wood.

Ok, noob question ahead. If your radar detector can detect the cop's radar detecting you then isn't it already too late? Did that make sense?

incorrect. Atlanta Type S lidar/laser in stealth mode is completely undetectable. even the V1 and the 8500 will stare blankly at you if they get tagged by this lidar. laser jammers are completely ineffective against it. fortunately, it's not a very common type of lidar.

Your statement isn't entirely correct. If a cop hits you specifically with the laser you're done. However, if he hits a car near you, your detector will pick him up and you can slow down.
no it won't. detectors are not "active scanners". They only pick up radar and laser waves that actually HIT THEM. laser is such a concentrated beam, generally no more than maybe 24 inches in diameter. if they tag the car next to you, your laser/radar detector won't do a damn thing.
