don't bother Julie. i've used the stuff from HD before. eventually, the sun will cook it enough to where the adhesive loses strength.
I'm not so sure. I use it to hold the Sunpass to my windshield. Regular velcro lasts about two months in the Florida sun, so far the Radio Shack high temperature velcro has held for at least six months.

It may not be the perfect solution, but it does work much better than regular velcro.

i guess it depends on the weight to adhesive surface area ratio....

Do you have one of those really tall windscreens or someshing? The top doesn't even come near the windscreen on mine.
Nope regular windscreen. I think my top folds a bit different than yours, as you have a glass rear window.

What I meant by lift is when you are cruising at highway speeds with the top down, that windscreen diverts the air that comes back into the cabin upwards. When I attached my friend's 8500 back there, it was bouncing up and down. But your rig is probably more secure than 2 suction cups and a piece of aluminum.

PJK3, we ended up using your idea. The only variations were that we used 3M double-sided tape instead of velcro and some kind of high-temp spray paint instead of rubber paint.

Many thanks to humbles2k and PJK3!

looks like you guys did a great job w/ it. glad i could help.

the velcro was just to make it easy to remove (if you wanted), and the rubber paint was to stop scratching of the windscreen... your solutions handled both just fine, so

OK, I see it's already done, and I don't want to rock the boat, but I have to ask.

Why not mount the sensor near the rear lisence plate? You would still get your rear facing alerts and it would be much more stealth of an install.

That was an option I considered, too... but it would require running/hiding more wire (which there is plenty of, I think) and then it would be exposed to more outside elements than just dust.
