I think u guys are out in left field... your battery can power that detector for about 6 months....

1 week at the airport plugged in...and it'll be stolen LONG before the battery goes down.

Last summer I wanted to hook up Radar Detector and saw that the power on the dome light was always on. I went under the dash with a voltmeter and found several connections that had ignition on. I hooked (soldered) up a wire, grounded another and ran it up the left side (the interior plastic body and rubber seals have enough play) of the window (where the door jam is located) and across the top and the wire is sitting on top of the sun visor when ever I want to plug in. It is hot only when the ignition is on. As I did it last summer, I cannot tell you which wire it is (my car is put away for the winter here in Colorado). It works great. I also have an extra outlet under the seat to provide power to my MP3 player and FM RF modulator.

I am still convinced of my method:: EASY, SIMPLE, QUICK.

Power to White+blue, Ground to Grey.

Your radar detector will be stolen before battery runs down... so unplug when not in use.

$.02,
Aaron

p.s. if you ask enough.. I'll post pics--but its REALLY not worth it..2 wires, simple as can be.

p.p.s. Simple is as simple doeees...forrest gump voice.

More hair splitting -
I'll make some assumptions here (based on past experience). Typical car battery is about 50 AH (amp-hours). I bet the S battery is more like 40 AH, if that. Even if your radar detector only draws 1/10 of an amp, that gives you about 8 days (.1 amps X 24 hrs X 8 days = 19.2 AH) before you discharge the battery half way. I'm not comfortable with coming back to the airport knowing my battery's half dead before I even open the doors.

While I agree it's not likely to be a problem for most people, I just don't want anyone to assume they can park the car for a month with their radar detector still powered, and expect to get in it and crank 'er up.
